Software Engineer
Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is seeking an Algorithms Systems Engineer to support the Joint Precision Approach and Landing System (JPALS) program. The role involves running and testing modeling and simulation of algorithmic models using Simulink and MATLAB, documenting equations, derivations, generating plots, performing data and statistical analysis, and contributing to lab‑based work on target products. The engineer will work on individual tasks under limited supervision or with a team, conduct analysis for system troubleshooting, improve code quality through reviews, and may provide guidance and coaching to other employees.
Location:
Cedar Rapids, IA, USA. Onsite role.
Security Clearance: U.S. citizenship required. Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance is required. Existing active clearance after day 1 is required.
Responsibilities- Test algorithms and models for the JPALS program
- Develop tools to facilitate testing
- Work on multiple tasks in a software development environment
- Conduct analysis for system troubleshooting
- Improve code quality by performing code reviews and following good software practices
- Perform test and integration tasks in a lab environment on real‑world products
- Proficiency in MATLAB, including code optimization and numerical stability
- Experience with Simulink or equivalent model‑based development tools
- Experience in systems engineering discipline
- Ability to read and develop algorithm descriptions, mathematical expressions, derivations, matrix manipulations, outlier analysis, and system‑level analysis
- Typically requires a STEM degree and minimum 2 years of relevant experience or an advanced degree in a related field
- Experience performing complex statistical analysis and/or mathematical modeling
- Experience performing model‑driven design using Simulink
- Experience in performing data analysis and problem solving, such as anomaly investigation
- Willingness to travel and conduct field‑work
