Fleet Maintenance Manager
Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) is currently searching for a Fleet Mechanic to join our travel construction crew. The fleet mechanic will work on all cooperative vehicles and equipment including inspections, diagnostics, repairs, upgrades, maintenance, any related budgeting, stocking of parts and recordkeeping.
This position is 100% travel around the CIPCO transmission system, which is all located in Iowa. The fleet mechanic does not have a residency restriction or requirement and will travel to the worksite each week. The year‑round work week schedule will be 6:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, with occasional changes to Tuesday through Friday. This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement and provides excellent company benefits.

Duties and Responsibilities- Vehicle Inspection/Repair/Maintenance/Assistance
- Performs inspections, upgrades, maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs of fleet vehicles and equipment, including brakes, engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, transmission, ignitions, air and exhaust systems, and axle assemblies. Fleet vehicles include any vehicles or trailers used by CIPCO employees including digger trucks, bucket trucks, and other construction equipment.
- Inspects and troubleshoots fleet problems and recommends and/or implements the best and most cost‑effective means of repair or replacement. These duties also include dielectric, aerial, and IDOT inspections.
- Performs emergency field assistance to disabled equipment.
- Responds to questions and concerns from vehicle and equipment users.
- Drives vehicles to deliver equipment and/or material as needed during the course of repair or when assisting other CIPCO staff.
- Assists other CIPCO staff with duties befitting qualifications.
- Recordkeeping/Compliance
- Develops and ensures adherence to fleet repair and maintenance schedule.
- Maintains inventory of supplies and tools needed for maintenance and repairs.
- Maintains necessary documentation to ensure fleet optimization.
- Ensures compliance of all DOT, safety, and other applicable local, state, and federal regulations and requirements.
- Assists in budget preparation and procurement of new fleet vehicles and equipment; assists in disposal/selling of retired fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Stays current on technology and fleet‑related advances by reading publications, attending trainings, etc.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Completion of diesel mechanic technical training program or equivalent on‑job training/experience.
- Valid driver’s license/C&DL license required.
- Crain Operation Certification preferred.
- Welding Certification preferred.
- DOT Inspections Certification preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of diesel vehicles, equipment components and diagnostic equipment.
- Advanced proficiency in operating all fleet vehicles, systems, equipment, and tools.
- Excellent trouble‑shooting and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent knowledge of DOT, safety, and other fleet‑applicable regulations.
- Detail‑oriented.
- Excellent prioritization, organizational, and time‑management skills.
- Computer skills.
- Self‑starter with a high level of initiative.
- Works effectively in a team environment and willing to assist others.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to perform job‑related recordkeeping.
