POSITION GOAL:
The Project Surveyor l will supervise teams of technical staff, provide professional reviews of work products, help manage office and field workload under the direction of the Head of Survey, and maintain projects on schedule and budget. In addition, this position will provide survey research, computations, review of computer-aided survey drafting of topographic maps and plats, and written descriptions of land for deeds, leases, and other legal documents in accordance with local, state, federal, and project requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review project requirements and prepare survey plans with the support of the Survey Party Chief to meet project deadlines and budget.
- Communicate duties and requirements to the field team and provide staff members with appropriate equipment, materials and support to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- Compute geodetic measurements and interpret survey data to determine the accuracy and quality of the data collected.
- Develop criteria for survey methods and procedures.
- Direct and assist technical staff in specific projects and in the compilation of ALTA Surveys, Final Plats, Parcel Maps, Records of Surveys, exhibits, and legal descriptions.
- Prepare survey schedules to ensure projects are on time and within budget projections and meet client's requirements and expectations.
- Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys to describe, certify, and assume liability for work performed.
- Perform quality assurance and report progress through the completion of each project assigned by the department head.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate project management skills with respect to deliverables, budget, schedule, and quality
- Proficient with survey calculations, principles, terms, and deliverables
- Knowledge of survey processing software such as Trimble Business Center (TBC)
- Proficient knowledge of survey regulations, laws, and boundary resolution
- Ability to work on multiple tasks and projects
- Collaborates with engineering, construction, and other field employees to assess and fulfill survey needs.
Education:
Associate degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field from an accredited college or university. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Job Classification: Exempt (Salaried)
Report To:
Survey Department Head
Licensure: Professional Land Surveyor license preferred
Experience: 8+ years managing large land survey projects.
Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills
Technical Skills:
Knowledge of local government agency standards, specifically WISDOT and various other agencies' CAD standards and deliverables.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversee field surveyors and technicians
Physical Demands: Must be able to sit, walk, stand, reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel, climb or balance, talk or hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools, or control. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on occasion. Required driving to job sites may result in a long commute
Working Environment: This job may require long periods of standing or walking in the field and involves exposure to various outside weather conditions, varying noise levels, and hazards associated with land surveying. Wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment is required while performing work in the field. The employee may also be exposed to a general office environment, requiring long periods of sitting at a computer in an ambient inside temperature, lighting, and noise level.
Due to the collaborative nature of this position, the work will need to be performed in the field or office, typically during normal business hours. Travel is required; must possess a valid license.
Continuing Education: Complete state-required competency. Attend job-related seminars and workshops.
