The Civil Engineer Associate II will perform mid-level engineering duties associated with the design of civil engineering projects in the Cedarburg, WI office. This position supports all aspects of design projects for roadways, utilities, transit, etc.; prepare schematics & models; performs analysis & engineering calculations; develops plans, specifications & estimates; prepares technical engineering reports; may perform field duties for various civil engineering projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - GENERAL- Possesses foundational engineering concepts.
- Acquires intermediate knowledge and skills through mentored experience.
- Evaluates and applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignment.
- Performs work assignments of moderate complexity. Contributes to specific objectives and outcomes.
- Receives instruction on specific objectives and direction on possible solutions to unconventional or complex problems.
- Works as part of a team and coordinates work with others.
- Typically receives moderate supervision on most aspects of assignments and a general review of all aspects of work but may work independently.
- Possesses proficient oral and written communication skills.
- Interacts primarily with internal project team members. May be required to communicate with clients or other stakeholders.
- Adheres to project deadlines and keeps the task manager informed of any difficulties encountered on assignments.
- Perform review of your own work before submitting to the next review level.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with clients and peer firms.
- Performs roadway planning and design activities on a variety of municipal and transportation projects.
- Prepares complete contract packages, including plans, specifications, special provisions, quantity and cost estimates, and other contract document components.
- Supports on the design of other types of projects as-needed, including civil/site development, transportation and water resources projects.
- Performs design calculations, develop design criteria, and prepare technical reports.
- Reviews existing designs for compliance with client or industry design criteria and requirements.
- Collaborates with architects, contractors, and other professionals.
- Analyzes data and ensures compliance with regulations and safety standards.
- Supports water resources and transportation design teams.
- Perform occasional field work based on project needs related to design, construction, or compliance activities.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with clients and peer firms.
- Independently manages time and schedule to achieve multiple project milestones.
- Evaluates and applies applicable current engineering standards, and federal and/or local requirements to assigned projects.
- Participates in meetings with clients.
- Provides guidance to entry level engineers. May perform peer reviews. Perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of mathematics and its application to field surveying and engineering computations.
- Can work effectively as a team player.

Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering.
Licensure: EIT required. Professional Engineer (PE) Preferred.

Skills:
Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
Technical
Skills:
Spatial and design skills to visualize projects in 2D and 3D. Intermediate engineering skills to compliment position goal. Intermediate experience with WisDOT projects and/or projects for Wisconsin Municipalities. Experience with Civil 3D/AutoCAD. Experience preparing construction plans, specifications and cost estimates. Intermediate background in and knowledge of local agency standards preferred.
