ESOL Teacher
Qualifications:
The ESOL Teacher should have completed a Bachelor's degree or higher program in a Georgia Professional Standards Commission approved program and have either an ESOL certification or ESOL endorsement on their certificate. The ESOL Teacher should have demonstrated he/she has the necessary ability, knowledge, and personal qualities to skillfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the ESOL position. ESOL teachers are responsible for teaching, screening, monitoring, entering, and maintaining student information on EL students, as well as reporting progress of ELs.
He/She must have a philosophy compatible with the Board of Education policies and personal attitude congenial with other faculty and staff. ESOL teachers may be hired as itinerant teachers or non-itinerant teachers to be assigned to schools based on student needs. Teacher must be willing to travel among schools if required.
Selection:
The ESOL teacher shall be employed by the Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent.

Month Certified Employee Evaluation:
The Georgia Leads evaluative instrument shall be used to evaluate ESOL teachers. The ESOL teacher shall perform the dimensions designated by Polk School District and listed under the Performance Areas of the evaluation instrument. The ESOL teacher shall perform all other locally developed practices designated by the building level administrator.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide appropriate instruction
- Supervise the behavior of students at all times
- Respond to problems by following appropriate channels to find a solution
- Assess and encourage student progress
- Monitor daily attendance of students
- Manage the learning environment
- Follow professional practices consistent with school and system policies in working with students, students' records, parents, and colleagues
- Comply with school, system, and state administrative regulations and Board of Education policies
- Demonstrate professional practices in teaching
- Participate in the strategic planning operations of the school
- Assume responsibility for the maintenance of the building(s) and grounds
- Handles miscellaneous duties and responsibilities
- Complies with any other duties or responsibilities assigned by the administration
