Translator; Mandarin

The Interpreter and Translator will convert oral speech and written text from English to Chinese (Mandarin) in a variety of contexts related to industrial machine design specifications.

Carefully listens to or reads content—including jargon and acronyms—in Mandarin.

• Understands and analyzes what is being said or written, and effectively and accurately translates the message, intent, and nuances being communicated.
• Reproduces statements or questions in Mandarin to English.
• Facilitates effective communication among individuals, companies, or other interested parties.
• Attends all required mutual meetings.
• Provides simultaneous interpretation (SI) or consecutive interpretation (CI) depending on the desired outcome.
• Uses equipment such as microphones or headsets to ensure precise and timely translations or interpretations.
• Gathers, develops, and maintains lists of terminology and information that may be used in technical translations such as industrial materials.
• Protects the confidentiality of information and adheres to any related ethical or professional codes.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Fluency in and thorough understanding of the primary language – Mandarin – being translated.
• Superior verbal and written communication skills in the Mandarin language.
• Excellent listening skills and auditory recall to remember spoken words and to accurately reproduce them in English.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
• Ability to appropriately understand and respond to culturally sensitive situations, perspectives, and phrases.
• Ability to work well under pressure and in intense situations.
• Ability to successfully interact with all stakeholders at multi‑levels of responsibility in an industrial environment.

• Fluency in Mandarin.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, or current enrollment in an accredited college/university preferred.
