Job Description:Performs all aspects of clinical patient care, including developing individualized care plans and assessing patient data. Provides first assistance intra‑operatively under the direction of the surgeon, including tissue exposure, handling, cutting, cauterizing, and suturing. Adheres to RNFA intra‑operative protocols, guidelines, and privileges, exercising critical thinking skills to maintain a safe peri‑operative environment. Functions as a Patient Safety Advocate, ensuring patients’ rights to privacy, safety, and confidentiality.
Recognizes and efficiently reacts to emergency situations and abnormal diagnostic data. Actively participates in Cardiothoracic Service Line Performance Improvement projects and demonstrates knowledge of service line metrics. Adheres to the job description for Operating Room RN and Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) standards. Identifies and addresses the need for patient and family teaching on a planned or spontaneous basis.
Maintains privileges in good standing through the Medical Staff Office. Evaluates patients’ developmental levels and identifies increased physical and emotional dependency needs. Collaborates with the support system consistent with the age of the patient served. Other duties as assigned.
- Ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking, and comprehending English effectively to carry out job requirements.
- Cognitive, psychomotor, and affective behaviors that demonstrate accountability and responsibility for identifying and meeting the needs of peri‑operative patients.
- Peri‑operative or post‑operative care of cardiothoracic patients.
- Ability to care for complex cardiothoracic surgical and advanced heart and lung disease patients.
- Ability to articulate comprehensive knowledge of advanced nursing theory and specialty nursing theory and practice for all age groups.

- Associate's of Nursing [Required]
- Bachelor's of Nursing [Preferred]
- Respiratory
- 1+ experience in cardiothoracic, cardiovascular, or cardiac ICU setting or cardiovascular operating room experience [Preferred]
- 2+ circulating nurse experience [Required]
- 2+ RNFA experience [Preferred]
- 2+ surgical scrub experience [Required]
- 4+ circulating nurse experience [Preferred]
- Department specific advanced competencies [Preferred]
