VTF Excavation is hiring a Hydro Vac Operator to operate hydrovac trucks and support our excavation and utility crews. This position is a good fit for someone who is dependable, safety-minded, and ready to be part of a hardworking team.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Hydro Vac Operator plays a key role in supporting our field operations and underground utility work. This position is primarily responsible for operating hydrovac trucks to safely and precisely excavate around and expose water, gas, electric, and other utility lines. Using pressurized water and vacuum systems, the Hydro Vac Operator performs non-destructive digging, day lighting, and potholing to protect existing infrastructure.

They may run other equipment as needed and step in on the labor side to keep jobs moving efficiently and safely.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operate hydrovac trucks to carefully expose water, gas, electric, and other underground utility lines
  • Perform non-destructive excavation, day lighting, and potholing to safely locate and protect existing utilities
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, complete required paperwork
  • Work closely with the foreman, crews, and utility locators to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient operations
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure hydro excavation truck remains operational
  • Complete daily job reports
  • Operate other heavy equipment as needed
  • Comply with federal and State of Ohio rules and regulations as well as posted traffic signage
  • Follow all safety protocols, OSHA and/or MSHA regulations, and company procedures at all times
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Adapt to varying job site conditions and tasks as directed by management
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid Driver’s License, Class A CDL required
  • Experience in heavy highway, excavation, and construction preferred, but not required
  • Ability to operate hydrovac trucks and other heavy equipment safely and efficiently
  • Strong understanding of underground utility work and job site safety practices
  • Physical ability to perform labor-intensive tasks — lifting, digging, and working in varying weather conditions
  • Dependable, punctual, and self-motivated with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
