It is a dynamic organization responsible for specialized engineering, water quality compliance, capital construction, and maintenance in providing stormwater and floodplain management for residents and businesses in the City of Centennial and unincorporated Arapahoe County.

We have an immediate opening for a full-time, non-exempt Receptionist. This person in this position is responsible for answering and directing incoming phone calls, greeting customers, delivering high-quality customer service, and making a positive first impression for SEMSWA visitors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Answer telephone calls, provide information to callers, and route calls to the appropriate party.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and assist walk-in customers to ensure quality customer service, often researching questions to provide accurate responses.
  • Prepare conference rooms and other office spaces to accommodate various sized meetings; assist with catering orders and other meeting needs.
  • Open, log, and route incoming mail and prepare and schedule outgoing mail and packages for pickup.
  • Schedule conference room and virtual meetings in Outlook for large and small groups.
  • Accept, route, and maintain records of monetary transactions; collect and track checks received from customers and process or route according to established financial procedures.
  • Prepare routine correspondence, memos, reports, and other documents; update various telephone lists and post public notifications as needed.
  • Receive calls or correspondence regarding SEMSWA billing questions, stormwater permitting, and maintenance requests and enter information into the system for review by other program staff.
  • File materials both electronically and in hard copy; assist with records retention and scanning.
  • Operate various types of office machinery, including computers, scanners, and printers; perform or schedule routine maintenance and order supplies to ensure proper functioning of equipment.
  • Monitor stock and order office, kitchen, and building supplies as needed.
  • Monitor, tidy, and maintain meeting rooms and shared areas during and at the end of the workday, to include the restocking of supplies as needed.
  • Process routine clerical assignments that are unique and specific to SEMSWA.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Core Competencies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Teams) and Microsoft Outlook for scheduling and calendar management.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and methods, record-keeping, supply ordering and tracking, and filing techniques.
  • Ability to quickly master local city, county, and district mapping systems to research property records and to assist the public with district boundary identification and billing questions.
  • Ability to effectively serve those requiring assistance on SEMSWA issues, and ability to use tact and diplomacy even in high-stress situations or when dealing with a difficult customer.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers, other agencies, and the public.
  • Skill in handling sensitive situations with tact, firmness, and impartiality.
  • Problem‑solving, efficient time‑management skills, and the ability to work independently, adapting to changing daily priorities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication in English.
Education and Experience
  • A High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
  • Additional coursework or training in Microsoft 365, communications, or office management is a plus.
  • Two years of clerical, administrative support, or office management experience required.
