Director – Mission Critical Design

Our client is a well-capitalized developer, owner and operator of mission-critical digital infrastructure with a rapidly expanding portfolio of hyperscale developments across North America.

As part of its continued growth, the business is seeking an accomplished Director - Mission Critical Design to provide technical leadership across a portfolio of complex projects while helping shape the future of its Design & Engineering function.

The Opportunity

Reporting to senior executive leadership, you will lead multidisciplinary design activities across multiple concurrent mission-critical developments, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest technical standards.

Acting as both a strategic leader and technical expert, you will collaborate with internal stakeholders, consulting engineers and delivery partners to drive consistency, innovation and predictable execution across the development portfolio.

This role offers significant visibility and the opportunity to build scalable systems, processes and teams capable of supporting continued expansion.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead design delivery from concept through construction support and project completion.
• Provide leadership across electrical, mechanical, civil, structural and architectural disciplines.
• Establish engineering standards, governance frameworks and design best practices.
• Drive consistency, constructability, quality and technical excellence across multiple concurrent developments.
• Partner with Development, Construction, Operations, Procurement and Executive Leadership to align business objectives with project delivery.
• Manage leading architectural, engineering and specialist consulting partners.
• Identify technical and commercial risks, developing practical solutions that maintain programme certainty.
• Build scalable design processes, reporting structures and delivery frameworks that support long-term growth.
• Recruit, mentor and develop a high-performing Design & Engineering team.

About You

We're interested in speaking with senior professionals who have successfully delivered complex mission-critical infrastructure within fast-paced, growth-oriented organizations.

You'll likely possess:

• Extensive leadership experience within hyperscale data centers, mission-critical infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, industrial or large-scale commercial developments.
• A proven track record leading multidisciplinary engineering and design teams.
• Strong knowledge of critical power infrastructure, mechanical systems, resiliency strategies and complex construction delivery.
• Experience managing external architects, engineering consultants and specialist design partners.
• The commercial judgement to balance quality, programme, budget and technical risk.
• Exceptional communication and executive stakeholder management skills.
• A collaborative leadership style with a passion for developing people and improving delivery performance.

Professional qualifications such as PE, AIA, PMP or LEED would be advantageous but are not essential.
