Position Summary
The Assistant Construction Manager will support the Construction Project Manager, Project Manager, Site Manager, and/or EPC Project or Program Manager with the day-to-day execution of construction projects. This role assists with managing project safety, quality, schedule, cost control, contracts, subcontractors, suppliers, procurement, documentation, turnover, and field-based activities required to successfully deliver Engineer, Procure, Construct (EPC), construction management, and program management projects.
This position supports a diverse portfolio of projects across multiple industries including aviation, commercial buildings, electrical transmission & distribution, facilities, manufacturing, oil & gas, power generation, process, and water.
Key Responsibilities Project & Construction Support- Assist with daily management of project safety, quality, schedule, cost control, and field activities.
- Collaborate with the project team to support Safety & Health performance for team members, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Support development and implementation of:
- Project Execution Plans
- Quality Assurance Plans
- Safety & Health Plans
- Subcontracting and Procurement Plans
- Project Staffing Plans and Organization Charts
- Assist with site mobilization and demobilization planning and execution.
- Secure and track required project permits.
- Contribute to negotiation, approval, and execution of prime contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and change orders.
- Support preparation of Requests for Proposal (RFPs), detailed scopes of work, bid evaluations, and subcontractor selection.
- Execute downstream contract administration including RFIs, submittals, meeting minutes, change management, and claims mitigation.
- Support invoicing processes for prime contracts, subcontractors, suppliers, and client contractors.
- Verify subcontractor and contractor compliance related to insurance, licensing, taxes, and securities.
- Assist with project cost reporting, scheduling, work breakdown structures, project setup, closeout, and field progress tracking.
- Support preparation and reporting of project status, risks, schedules, costs, and cash flows for internal and external stakeholders.
- Analyze composite crew rates, labor burdens, production rates, and equipment costs.
- Support earned value management, forecasting, and cost control metrics.
- Coordinate with Superintendents and Site Managers to ensure subcontractor compliance with safety, quality, and schedule requirements.
- Support onboarding of craft labor and field supervision.
- Assist with staffing plans in collaboration with field operations and craft HR teams.
- Maintain accurate craft classifications, progression records, and training compliance.
- Support development of project labor agreements when required.
- Assist with managing construction equipment inventory and utilization.
- Establish and maintain project documentation, filing systems, and record retention processes.
- Support and participate in safety, quality, progress, and financial audits.
- Facilitate materials receiving, inventory control, storage, and transportation.
- Assist with project turnover documentation, warranties, and closeout activities.
- Ensure consistent application of company policies and procedures across all project activities.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant construction experience, or applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access).
- Experience with document control, scheduling, cost control, and project management software preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Ability to meet company driving requirements.
- Prior experience supporting construction projects or program management efforts within:
