Arapahoe Libraries is seeking an Adult Reference Librarian at Southglenn Library to provide reference, advisory, and technology support for adults. You'll respond to questions in person and through phone, email, and chat, and you'll support programming, outreach, and volunteer coordination. You'll also mentor staff through training and shadowing. As part of the branch leadership team, you'll serve as a Person-in-Charge (PIC) and help ensure smooth daily operations.

This role combines strong patron service with collaboration across the branch and district teams. You'll help identify local needs, strengthen access to information, and support services that invite participation, learning, and connection.

Key Responsibilities Patron Services
  • Provide in-person advisory, technology, and reference services for adults.
  • Conduct Ask-a-Librarian sessions with a priority for adult-focused requests.
  • Respond to materials requests and answer phone, email, and chat reference questions.
  • Provide computer and technology support to patrons.
  • Provide floor coverage as needed.
  • Provide technical and reference support to paraprofessional staff.
  • Identify community needs at the branch level and focus on relationship building and customer service.
  • Cultivate participation and ownership of library services and programming by adults.
  • Tailor services to local community interests across diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Develop advisory-based services, including targeted readers' advisory initiatives.
  • Contribute web/advisory content and participate in district-wide projects and operations.
Programming, Outreach, and Volunteer Support
  • Support and promote programming and outreach, including Adult Librarian Core Teams and Events.
  • Coordinate the volunteer program at Southglenn in partnership with the District Volunteer Coordinator and branch staff.
Training and Mentoring
  • Mentor staff by offering shadowing and consulting opportunities.
  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate staff training on library principles, resources, and reference services.
  • Support district-wide training as needed.
Professional Development
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends in librarianship through professional learning and share knowledge with coworkers.
Collection Management
  • Support collection management and improvements in collaboration with branch staff.
  • Support merchandising and displays aligned with collection policies and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the adult collection librarian as needed.
