Severe Needs Para Educator Job Summary
Under the guidance of licensed special education staff, the Para‑Educator assists students with severe special education needs. Responsibilities include delivering curriculum to individuals or small groups, implementing programming, generalizing learned skills, and applying behavior strategies. The role also involves preparing materials, monitoring students, recording achievement, providing technical physical care, and maintaining a clean and hygienic environment. In online/remote settings, the Para‑Educator supports students with remote learning access, re‑teaching curriculum, setting up executive functioning strategies, and ensuring assignment completion.
These duties are performed across various assignments, including Autism, Behavior Development, Early Childhood Education, Homebound (FAPE), Integrated Learning Center (ILC), Serious Emotional Disability (SED), and Transition Programming.
Shared tasks across all assignments:
This position reports to a School Principal or designee and has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications- Criminal background check and fingerprinting required.
- High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma.
- No professional work experience required.
- For Title I assignments, meet at least one of the following: completed at least two years of college study; obtained an associate’s or higher degree; or met a rigorous standard of academic achievement with demonstrated knowledge of reading/language arts, writing, or mathematics.
- Mandatory biennial Crisis Prevention Intervention training for staff working with Autism, Behaviorally Disordered, or ILC assignments.
- Medication administration training provided by the District as needed.
- Basic knowledge of office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, and email.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.

- Ability to work alone and with others.
