McNair Scholars Program Coordinator

Position Overview

The McNair Scholars Program Coordinator reports to the Program Director and works closely with faculty and staff to ensure that the federally funded Department of Education TRIO McNair grant is implemented successfully. The coordinator focuses on student‑facing activities aligned with grant outcomes, supports recruitment, and manages program operations.

• Provide personal, career, and graduate school advising to program participants.
• Co‑design the summer and academic‑year seminar curriculum and guide participants on research presentation and publication.
• Assist the Program Director with faculty mentor selection and mentor orientation.
• Support participants through the graduate school search and application process and conduct exit interviews.
• Gather and share information about campus resources and track all participants’ academic progress.
• Report regularly to the Program Director on student progress and recommend interventions as needed.
• Hire and supervise student workers and tutors; supervise the Administrative Assistant.
• Approve timesheets, purchase office supplies, and create expense and reimbursement reports.
• Manage participant data in the Blumen tracking system and maintain files for at least ten years after graduation.
• Create and maintain a program policies and practices manual.
• Assist the Program Director in identifying and communicating with potentially eligible participants.
• Meet with applicants, verify eligibility, and arrange and conduct applicant interviews.
• Promote the program at recruiting events, classes, student groups, campus publications, and social media.
• Collaborate with other campus programs supporting first‑generation and underrepresented students.
• Plan and implement open houses and information sessions in fall and spring semesters and meet regularly with the Program Director to ensure program outcomes.
• Engage in ongoing professional development through required trainings and regional and national TRIO trainings.
• Plan activities, workshops, and cultural engagement events aligned with grant goals.
• Arrange and accompany participants on graduate school campus visits, conference attendance, and academic enrichment activities.
• Provide travelers’ documentation and arrangements, submit cash advance requests, create expense reports, book travel, and plan group campus visits.
• Ensure university driver authorization for travel and accompany participants on all group events.

• Research‑based master’s degree.
• At least 2 years of experience in a college or university student services setting.
• Demonstrated understanding of challenges faced by the program’s target student population and experience supporting their success.
• Strong oral and written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a vehicle on University/State business.
• Preferred:
  Doctoral degree.
• Preferred: TRIO experience.
• Preferred:
  Expertise implementing and/or developing academic or system policies.
• Preferred:
  Event and travel planning experience.
• Preferred:
  Experience teaching at the college or post‑secondary level.
• Preferred:
  Experience as a member of one or more of the populations served by this grant.

$59,200 / year

Travel, including driving, on grant‑related activities is expected and university driver authorization is required.
