Role Overview

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer, NPI Hardware is responsible for developing efficient, scalable production processes for aerospace components, including those made through traditional and additive manufacturing processes. This role focuses on Design for Manufacturing, planning, prototyping, tooling, and production process optimization while collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve quality, reduce cost, and enhance manufacturability. The engineer serves as the manufacturing owner for purchased hardware, driving all aspects of its production readiness and performance.

What

You'll Do
  • Design for Manufacturing - work with design team to develop designs that are ready for manufacturing efficiently.
  • Manufacturing Planning:
    Create production plans, work instructions, partner with operations to coordinate resources, and monitor process success to meet project requirements and deadlines.
  • Prototyping and Testing:
    Develop and oversee prototype manufacturing, testing and validation processes to ensure that aerospace components meet design specifications and performance requirements.
  • Process Development:
    Design and optimize manufacturing processes for aerospace component and systems, considering factors such as materials, machinery, tooling, and labor.
  • Collaborative Work:
    Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design engineer, quality control specialists, and supply chain specialists to address issues and ensure smooth production operations.
  • Risk Management:

    Identify and address potential risks in the manufacturing process and develop contingency plans to mitigate them.
  • Cost Control:
    Monitor and control manufacturing costs by improving processes, reducing waste, and making cost-effective decisions regarding materials, equipment, and labor.
  • Process Improvement:
    Continuously identify and implement process improvements, automation, and lean manufacturing techniques to enhance efficiency and reduce production errors.
  • Troubleshooting:
    Investigate and resolve production issues, such as defects, machine malfunctions, or process inconsistencies, to maintain a smooth production flow.
  • Quoting of potential new parts and manufacturing methods for production hardware.
You have
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field from an accredited institution.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience manufacturing experience. Knowledge and skills regarding tube bending and fittings, metal forming, welding, electronics enclosures, and more.
  • Exposure to integration and vehicle/system packaging.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as Solid Works, Siemens NX, Teamcenter, or similar systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications, drawings, and models effectively.
  • Experience in adapting equipment or tooling designs to meet factory and production requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong workload management and follow-up capabilities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across all levels within and outside the organization.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • Availability to work extended hours during machine outages or critical activities.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. Citizenship is required, as only U.S. Citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
