Pay: The hourly rate for this position is between $45-70 per hour. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
Job Summary: The Pre-Commissioning Area Engineer is responsible for coordinating work related with the testing and/or commissioning of electrical distribution and transmission substations for utility clients. The individual will provide direct supervision over EPS startup personnel along with other suppliers such as contractor electricians and engineering staff.
Responsibilities- Perform substation field engineering, including work plan preparation and project testing functions of Area Engineers in the commissioning of new or modified transmission facilities.
- Review and develop isolation and restoration work plans, prepare integrated functional test plans, and perform functional tests.
- Direct troubleshooting efforts, including plan development and execution to resolve functional test deficiencies.
- Mark-up field change drawings, discrepancy lists and project closure packages within 30 days of project in-service date.
- Provide on-site support to Design Engineering, Substation Construction, and Transmission Service Center Managers engaged in the construction, operation, and maintenance of the customer’s transmission system as it relates to design philosophy and providing field information/valid requirements.
- Provide technical guidance on unusual or complex problems ensuring customer design standards are maintained.
- BS or 2‑year degree in electrical engineering preferred, with experience communicating with microprocessor-type relays.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical equipment testing and inspection, including high voltage applications.
- Knowledge of testing, commissioning and maintenance of power equipment.
- Excellent management and supervisory skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Superior safety record.
- Broad experience with a wide variety of electrical apparatus used in the power industry, including transformers, breakers, and switch gear.
- Experience working in utility transmission substations required.
- Able to pass a pre‑employment drug screen due to this being a safety‑sensitive position.
