Propulsion Engineer, Combustion Systems Aerodynamics and Design
We are partnered with an exciting aerospace company developing next-generation propulsion technology for high-performance flight. Working at the forefront of advanced gas turbine development, they're building clean-sheet propulsion systems in a fast-paced engineering environment where technical ownership, collaboration, and innovation are at the core of everything they do.
The OpportunityWe're seeking a Propulsion Engineer – Combustion Systems Aerodynamics & Design to support the development of advanced combustion systems for a next-generation gas turbine engine.
This role is ideal for an engineer with a strong background in combustion aerodynamics, CFD, and combustor design who wants to work across the full product lifecycle—from concept development and high-fidelity simulation through rig testing, validation, and engine integration.
Key Responsibilities- Design and optimise combustion systems for advanced gas turbine engines.
- Perform high-fidelity CFD analysis to evaluate combustion performance, flow behaviour, heat transfer, and emissions.
- Support combustor architecture development, including fuel injection, mixing strategies, liner design, and exit temperature profile optimisation.
- Participate in combustion rig design, testing, data analysis, and validation activities.
- Work across multidisciplinary teams to integrate combustion systems with compressors, turbines, thermal management, and mechanical design.
- Develop engineering tools, analysis methods, and automated workflows to improve design efficiency.
- Support hardware development from concept through manufacturing, testing, and certification.
- Bachelor's or Master s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience designing or analysing combustion systems within gas turbines or related propulsion systems.
- Strong background in combustion CFD and high-fidelity simulation techniques, including RANS, LES, conjugate heat transfer (CHT), and combustion modelling.
- Experience with combustor architecture, including fuel injection, mixing, combustion zones, liner cooling, and temperature profile control.
- Knowledge of emissions prediction and combustion performance analysis.
- Experience supporting combustion rig testing, validation, and data reduction.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Ownership of combustion components or propulsion modules throughout product development.
- Experience integrating combustion systems with compressors, turbines, thermal management, or secondary air systems.
- Understanding of combustion effects on overall engine performance, efficiency, durability, and fuel consumption.
- Experience developing engineering tools, automation, or design methodologies.
- Background in engine testing, data analysis, and performance validation.
- Experience with in aerospace propulsion, industrial gas turbines, power generation, or other high-performance combustion systems.
- Help develop cutting-edge propulsion technology within a rapidly growing engineering organisation.
- Work on clean-sheet engine development with significant technical ownership and visibility.
- Collaborate with experienced multidisciplinary teams solving complex real-world combustion challenges.
- Join a high-performance startup culture that values innovation, technical excellence, and rapid execution over bureaucracy.
- Competitive compensation, equity, comprehensive benefits, relocation assistance, and flexible PTO.
