Job Overview
SCADA Engineer (Primoris Renewable Energy) will report to the Manager, SCADA & Performance Engineering and support both Pre‑construction and Operations. In Pre‑construction, the engineer will collaborate with Engineering, Estimating, and Procurement to review client SCADA specifications and solicit SCADA quotes. In Operations, the engineer will review SCADA plans/drawings supplied by SCADA vendors and Engineers of Record (EORs) and support all commissioning and performance needs, while managing third‑party SCADA suppliers.
PrimaryJob Responsibilities
- Review and comment on client‑provided SCADA technical specifications and Scope of Work (SOW).
- Solicit proposals from SCADA suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Work with Substation, BESS, and O&M vendors to streamline communication around SCADA requirements.
- Review and comment on SCADA drawing packages from third‑party SCADA vendors and EORs.
- Support Operations project team in managing third‑party SCADA providers and visit project sites as required.
- Attend trainings provided by SCADA providers and equipment manufacturers.
- Assist construction team during SCADA commissioning and performance team during plant performance testing.
- Support troubleshooting efforts by Operations, O&M teams for active sites and those in warranty stages.
- Bachelor of Science or Engineering in Electronics Communications, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, Data Analytics Engineering, or a related discipline from an ABET‑accredited institution.
- Minimum 2 to 5 years of experience in SCADA engineering, preferably in the renewable energy industry.
- Experience with Microsoft Teams for internal communication.
- Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).
- Experience creating SCADA single‑line diagrams with Autodesk or Microsoft Visio.
- Familiarity with equipment manufacturers in the solar, BESS, and HV industries.
- Knowledge of IEC 61850, IEEE communication, and interoperability protocols.
- Understanding of NERC, FERC, and other utility communication requirements for compliance with interconnection agreements.
- Proficiency navigating HMI interfaces for various SCADA suppliers.
- Knowledge of major SCADA communication protocols and network topologies used in utility‑scale solar, BESS, and wind.
- Expertise in Microsoft Office and Excel; programming skills are preferred.
- Experience with TCP/IP, Modbus, and other communication protocols.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work independently on assigned projects.
- Strong interpersonal skills for communicating with internal and external parties via email, phone, and in‑person.
- Ability to interpret manufacturer operating parameters, application limitations, and commissioning guidelines.
- Ability to read and understand technical plans and specifications.
- Team‑player; thrives in fast‑moving environments with a positive attitude under stress.
- Strong organizational skills for documenting and tracking issues from inception to resolution.
