Overview
As a Structural Analysis Engineer III at Sierra Space, you will leverage your expertise and experience to solve wide-ranging and complex technical problems related to the design, analysis, and development of structural systems. You will work under general direction, independently developing and implementing solutions that are imaginative, thorough, practical, and aligned with organizational objectives. As a Responsible Engineer (RE), you will own discrete technical packages and provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
Your role will involve collaborating across all technical disciplines, engaging in frequent external communication related to routine business, and contributing to the design and analysis of structural systems through hand calculations and finite element analysis.
- Develop and implement innovative solutions to wide-ranging technical problems related to structural integrity.
- Independently determine and develop approaches to solutions while ensuring technical excellence.
- Collaborate effectively across all technical disciplines to ensure project integration and coherence.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers to foster their development.
- Communicate with both external and internal parties regarding routine business and technical matters, ensuring alignment and successful project execution.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree, or Master’s degree with at least 3 years of experience.
- Typically 5+ years of related experience.
- Expertise in structural analysis and general knowledge of related disciplines.
- Complete understanding and application of technical principles, standards, theories, and concepts.
- Ability to provide solutions to wide-ranging technical problems that are imaginative, thorough, practical, and consistent with organizational objectives.
- Experience managing discrete technical packages as a Responsible Engineer (RE).
- Capability to work under general direction to independently determine and develop approaches to solutions.
- Ability to work across all technical disciplines.
- Advanced proficiency with structural analysis and design software (e.g., Nastran, Femap, Ansys).
- Strong familiarity with industry standards and best practices (e.g., ASME, ASTM, AISC).
- Exceptional analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C++) for custom analysis methods.
- Knowledge of material properties and behavior in aerospace applications, including metals, composites, and bonded joints.
- Experience with standard fatigue and fracture analysis methods and software (e.g., NASGRO, AFGROW).
Pay Range: $ - $. Your actual base compensation will be determined on a case‑by‑case basis and may vary based on job‑related knowledge and skills, education, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness.
