Overview

Iron Woman Construction and Environmental Services LLC has an immediate opening for an experienced Estimator with a background in civil construction, focusing on Wet Utilities (Water, Sewer, Storm Sewer). The Estimator will be based in our Denver, Colorado (Centennial) office and will manage all aspects of developing cost estimates for large civil and utility projects, centering around site development and municipal infrastructure projects in support of our operations throughout the Denver Metropolitan Area.

In this role you will be involved in planning, development, negotiation, and contract execution of the project.

Responsibilities
  • Research and track new bidding opportunities within the company's markets.
  • Review project plans and specifications to determine the nature and scope of projects.
  • Engage in strategic alliance with operations to develop win strategy and lead the bid team.
  • Evaluate owner contract delivery models to identify how each delivery model impacts costs and resources (e.g., Preconstruction Services) and apply appropriate strategies.
  • Lead the estimate procedure from strategy review through bid closing and submission.
  • Work with the production team during the preconstruction process in reviewing plans and specifications for constructability, identifying opportunities for value-engineered cost savings, competitive differentiation, and an overall understanding of the project.
  • Create, maintain, and manage the preconstruction and estimate schedule.
  • Analyze design criteria and assist in recommending the best options based on cost, engineering quality, and availability of materials to quantify and mitigate risk.
  • Perform timely and accurate project take-offs.
  • Conduct thorough pre-bid site investigations, participate in pre-proposal meetings, clarify scope of work, prepare RFI’s, and fully understand site specifications.

    Win estimating software to build the project estimate.
  • Utilize MS Project to prepare bid schedules to determine resource demands and project risks.
  • Assemble the most accurate cost through assignment of crews, productions, schedules, materials, and subcontracting opportunities by leveraging past experience and cost history.
  • Formulate contingency plans and effectively manage risks that might impact cost and time estimates.
  • Coordinate all bid communications with owner, engineers, subcontractors, and material suppliers on bid status.
  • Perform subcontract and vendor proposal reviews to ensure all scope gaps are recognized and addressed.
  • Identify, solicit, and obtain MWBE and/or DBE partners throughout the bid process; ensure that project goals have been met.
  • Assemble a complete and accurate bid package for review. Lead project bid review and ensure agreed-upon changes are reflected in the final estimate.
  • Assist the Divisional Vice President, President, and CEO in establishing project margins.
  • Manage the final bid package through final delivery and/or bid submission.
  • Keep track of the latest estimating technology and industry-related techniques.
  • Perform all duties in alignment with company values, ethics, and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in estimating civil construction, underground utilities, site development.
  • Minimum of 2 years in an estimating position on projects valued over $2 million.
  • 4-year engineering or construction degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and estimating software such as Bid2

    Win; familiarity with Bluebeam is a plus.
  • Highly productive and able to manage a busy work schedule independently.
  • Excellent communication, research, proposal writing, and oral presentation skills.
  • Intimate knowledge of construction production rates is helpful.
  • Exceptional time management, multitasking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to closely collaborate with other project teams and stakeholders.
