The Mortgage QC Underwriter is responsible for rendering QC on closed loan files. They must check that credit decisions on incoming applications are consistent with underwriting policies, mortgage commitments, and verify supporting documentation submitted by applicants.
Responsibilities- Analyze income & employment, credit strength, property appraisal, debt-to-income (DTI), loan-to-value (LTV), and all other information pertinent to the credit decision process.
- Validate that the prospective mortgagor’s loan application adheres to lender and investor (Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae) guidelines and applicable government agency rules to approve the loan.
- Assess the risk involved in approving a loan to determine acceptability to the lender.
- Mark errors for any deficiencies observed on the loan.
- Verify accuracy of supporting employment documents, source of down payment/reserves, appraisal value, and property title commitment received.
- Review legal documents, if present, to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Identify mortgage insurance (MI) requirements and follow MI guidelines.
- Maintain service level standards.
- Assist in new-hire trainings.
- Perform internal quality checks, provide floor support and feedback to other staff.
- Respond to all emails efficiently.
- Adhere to underwriting deadlines.
- Minimum 24–36 months of conventional mortgage underwriting, QA/QC experience.
- Knowledge of full loan cycle from beginning to end.
- Strong understanding of Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Prospector (LP).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to resolve complicated issues as they arise.
- Proven organizational skills with ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Diploma.

Salary Range: $65,000 – $80,000 per year.
