The Larimer County Department of Health and Environment is seeking a Senior Public Health Nurse to work as part of the Communicable Disease and Epidemiology Team to lead our Tuberculosis (TB) program. This position will provide leadership, supervision and mentoring of the TB program’s supporting nurse and medical assistant while providing direction for TB related activities. In this role, you will work with our Medical Officer and our partners at the Colorado Department of Health and Environment (CDPHE) to coordinate care and monitor treatment plans for patients with active TB disease and Latent Tuberculosis infection while following public health protocols.

This position presents opportunities for coordinating care with our partners in Larimer County who provide primary care, pulmonology and infectious disease medical care. This position will assist in preparing reports and ensuring appropriate billing with our contracting medical care partners. You will have opportunities to gain knowledge of public health practices that align with CDC guidelines and to provide case reviews to share experiences with TB program managers throughout Colorado and participate in CDPHE’s Cohort Review to optimize the management of patients and aspects of TB program management.

In addition to TB-related activities, this position will support Communicable Disease staff through supervision, and assistance with case and outbreak investigations and the provision of infection control and prevention guidance to community partners and individuals.

The standard work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. This position may be asked to respond to events outside the typical work schedule. During the initial six-month probationary period, the individual hired may telework up to one day per week, if business needs allow. After successfully completing the probationary period, the individual may telework up to two days per week, depending on business plans and operational needs.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the oversight of the TB program, including establishing and monitoring program goals and objectives, workload, and quality improvement efforts as well as the implementation of prevention activities.
  • Supervises, coordinates, and evaluates staff assigned to TB program activities; provides training and guidance. Conducts performance evaluations and motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance; participates in the hiring and disciplinary process.
  • Guides and supervises TB prevention and control activities in conjunction with the Medical Officer. Collaborates with the Medical Officer and agency leadership to resolve complex concerns related to TB.
  • Develops, updates, and maintains agency TB policies, procedures, and clinical protocols to ensure compliance with public health regulations and scope of practice.
  • Manages and responds to inquiries regarding TB and provides advice to medical providers, hospitals, and infection control practitioners regarding management of TB cases.
  • Coordinates comprehensive care for patients with active TB disease and Latent Tuberculosis Infection. Duties include monitoring medication adherence, assessing side effects, conducting home visits, and ensuring successful treatment completion.
