BASIC FUNCTIONPlans, organizes, and coordinates programs of activities in and outside the care center which will provide entertainment, inter-communications, exercise, relaxation, opportunity to express creative talent and fulfill basic psychological, social and spiritual needs to all residents. This position is classified as Hourly, Non-Exempt.
QUALIFICATIONS- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- Prefer to be certified and licensed by the State of Colorado or a graduate of a CNA certification class, and become certified within 120 days of hire.
- Experience in activity programming in a long term care setting is also preferred.
- Must be able to crawl, kneel, squat, bend, lift 40-60 pounds, and walk up and down halls all during the eight hour shift to give care to residents.
- Must have adequate hand grip and flexible arm and shoulder joints for lifting and turning residents, as well as lifting them into a chair, to ensure safety of the resident in the job performance.
- Must be able to escort residents in wheelchairs to and from activities and meals, as well as rides outside.
- Must be able to stand for 10-20 minutes while bathing residents.
- Must be able to bend for 5-10 minutes for bed making and dressing residents.
- Must be able to safely handle hazardous chemicals.
- Hearing must be adequate to be able to hear residents’ complaints, needs, desires, call lights, alarms, calls for help and to answer telephone.
- Vision must be adequate to observe residents and their condition, observe call lights, complete documentation on paper and computer, dial telephone, push wheelchairs, linen carts and ambulate from room to room.
- This position is classified in Category 1 of infection control.
- This position could require the performance of any duty that involves the exposure and/or potential exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue.
Reports to the Activity Director and the Administrator.
AUTHORITY- Has the authority to make decisions concerning the residents care plans, budget, and activity calendar when the Activity Director is unavailable.
- Has the authority to give direct resident care if employee is a Certified Nursing Assistant, as outlined in the Nurse Aides Practice Act.
- Has the authority to access the electronic health record according to the HIPAA Privacy and Security policy as specified under clinical authorization.
- Responsible for meeting the social, psychological and recreational needs of the residents.
- Responsible for planning and organizing activities geared to the residents’ preferences and needs.
- Responsible for evaluating residents and setting realistic goals according to their level of functioning and personal preferences.
- Responsible for having current driver’s license and maintaining a good driving record.
- Responsible for covering daytime, evenings, weekends and holidays as requested.
- Responsible for 1-1 programming visits.
- Responsible for safely operating and maintaining activity equipment i.e. ceramic kiln, popcorn machine, facility vehicles and lifts and etc.
- Responsible to keep the Certified Nurse Assistant License current if applicable.
