• The
  Environmental Health Specialist I is a non-exempt position and the full hiring range is $26.58 to $39.88 hourly (equivalent to $55,286.40 to $82,950.40 yearly) dependent upon qualifications and experience.

• The full hiring range for the Environmental Health Specialist II is $66,010.10 to $99,015.02 yearly, dependent upon qualifications and experience.

      Qualifications:
      
      Requires an approved industry specific credential or certification, or registration as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA). Credentials or certifications in must be obtained within one (1) year of employment. Continuing Education (CE) hours must be maintained in accordance with the credential or certification. Documentation of certification or credential in good standing must be provided upon request.

The Environmental Health Specialist performs inspections and investigations required by laws, rules, and regulations of the State of Colorado and Arapahoe County. This role documents violations and ensures compliance. May also recommend initiation of enforcement action(s) when necessary to the Environmental Health Supervisor.

The Environmental Health Specialist position for the Early Childhood Program will be involved in performing inspections and investigations of regulated businesses with a focus on inspections of child cares, schools, responding to complaints, and investigating illnesses related to environmental causes. There may also be some overlap with potential work in other Environmental Health programs. The position also entails building collaborative relationships internally across divisions and externally with community partners to advance public health initiatives in in these settings as well as providing technical assistance and education to the public and other agencies regarding areas of public health concerns.

The Environmental Health Specialist position for the Consumers Protection (CP) Program will primarily perform work in support of the Retail Food Program. This work consists of educating and conducting regulatory inspections of Retail Food Establishments as well as licensing and inspecting mobile food and special event vendors. CP Specialists will investigate food borne illnesses and will work closely with Communicable Disease staff in the event of a food related outbreak.

Additionally, CP Specialists will respond to and investigate a range of environmental complaints and resident concerns. CP Specialists may also conduct regulatory inspections of Body Art facilities and become involved in vector surveillance and control efforts.
