Position Overview
Temporary Watercraft Inspector & Decontaminator (Lead and General) with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Colorado Department of Natural Resources. Pay: $20.00–$21.00 per hour. Employment dates: 05/12/2026 – 10/15/2026 (9 months or less).
Responsibilities- Inspect and decontaminate boats launching and leaving the reservoir, ensuring compliance with state regulations and standard protocols.
- Provide public outreach and education on invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels, distributing printed material to visitors.
- Work independently or in pairs; early morning, evening, and weekend shifts required.
- Lead Inspector: train inspection staff, create and manage schedules, ensure shift coverage, maintain records and payroll timekeeping, resolve staffing or customer issues, recommend hiring/firing decisions.
- Conduct monthly quality‑control assessments, verify data entry accuracy, maintain inventory of supplies, and perform basic maintenance on decontamination equipment.
- High school diploma.
- Good driving record and ability to work weekends, early mornings, and late evenings.
- Experience with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines, and/or heavy equipment preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong customer‑service orientation.
- Reliable, punctual, and self‑motivated.
- Ability to work independently.
All workers expected to drive a state‑owned vehicle must maintain a safe driving record and hold a valid driver’s license. Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be reviewed for those assigned a state fleet vehicle, required to operate a vehicle as part of the position, or utilizing a state fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle.
