Healthier Colorado Seeks Executive Director to Lead Next Chapter
Healthier Colorado, Colorado’s most influential voice in public health advocacy, is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as our Colorado Executive Director. This is a unique opportunity to lead a well‑resourced, innovative organization at a pivotal moment as our founding leader transitions to guide our expansion into a multi‑state network.
For over a decade, Healthier Colorado has been the only health advocacy organization in the country that deploys the full range of political activity—from political giving and lobbying to grassroots organizing—to advance evidence‑based public health policies. Our nonpartisan, pragmatic approach and our willingness to think creatively have earned us respect across Colorado’s political landscape. Now, we’re looking for a dynamic leader to build on this foundation and chart the course for our next chapter.
WhyThis Role Matters
The Executive Director will oversee all aspects of our Colorado operations, from legislative and political advocacy and coalition building to policy development and fundraising. You’ll lead a dedicated team of professionals, and manage Colorado’s Health Capitol—a collaborative workspace serving dozens of mission‑aligned organizations. Most importantly, you’ll have the autonomy and resources to make a measurable impact on the health and wellbeing of all Coloradans.
WhatWe’re Looking For
We need someone who knows Colorado—its legislature, its political dynamics, and its players. The ideal candidate brings at least 10 years of progressive leadership experience in campaigns, nonprofit management, or government relations, with at least 5 years working directly in Colorado politics and policy. You should be comfortable in front of a camera, skilled at building authentic partnerships, and passionate about mentoring your team to grow and thrive.
But experience alone isn’t enough. We’re looking for what we call a “sunshine warrior”—someone who tackles serious challenges with optimism, humor, and collaborative spirit. Our brand is fun and engaging, and we believe the best work happens when people enjoy what they do. You should be a self‑starter who generates bold ideas, thinks strategically, and isn’t afraid to be different. Most importantly, you must be a team builder who values staff development, listens to feedback, and creates an environment where everyone can do their best work.
What We OfferHealthier Colorado offers financial stability, a proven track record of success, strong relationships with funders and partners, and a comprehensive benefits package including competitive salary ($160‑190K), generous PTO, summer Fridays, and a paid sabbatical after five years. You’ll join an organization that practices what it preaches about work‑life balance and supporting the whole health of our team.
This is more than a job—it’s a chance to lead an organization that gets things done, to be a leading voice for health at Colorado’s Capitol, and to build something meaningful for the long term.
