THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION (9 MONTHS OR LESS) - PAYING $18.00-$19.00 PER HOUR

The Colorado Department of Natural Resources works to develop, preserve, and enhance the state's natural resources for the benefit and enjoyment of current and future citizens and visitors. Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) aims to perpetuate wildlife resources, provide a quality state parks system, and offer enjoyable, sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to be active stewards of Colorado's natural resources.

Yampa River State Park, located in the Yampa Valley west of Steamboat Springs, is described as three parks in one. The headquarters on the Yampa River near Hayden provides camping, a Visitor Center and nature trails. The Elkhead Reservoir is the third major component of the Yampa River State Park system.

Available Positions
  • AQUATIC NUISANCE SPECIES INSPECTOR
    : A customer service based position that involves inspecting for invasive Zebra/Quagga Mussels, Milfoil or other plant species on boats and personal watercraft at an inspection point on the park.

    Duties include:
    • Staff the park ANS (aquatic nuisance species) inspection station
    • Conduct physical boat inspections and boater interviews
    • Provide information and assistance to the boating public (distributes brochures, promotes ANS education, educates about State Park regulations, etc.)
    • Cleaning and light maintenance of ANS inspection areas and facilities
    • Accurate counting and recording of boat inspections
    • May document and report visitor complaints
    • Other duties as assigned
  • PARK MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
    :
    Responsible for general park maintenance and cleaning of public facilities (restrooms, showers, vault toilets, campsites, picnic areas, trails, etc.).
    • Operates and performs routine maintenance on State-owned vehicles and equipment
    • Ensures quality customer service and facility maintenance, repair and cleanliness
    • Provides information and assistance to visitors
    • May assist with carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical work and transporting materials
    • Performs other duties as assigned
  • VISITOR SERVICES TECHNICIAN
    : A customer service based position in a visitor center or gate entrance, greeting visitors, or field duties as assigned. Requires effective communication with park visitors.
    • Staff the park entrance station and/or the visitor center
    • Provide information and assistance to visitors (maps/brochures, orientation, park regulations, etc.)
    • Sell parks passes, permits, books, maps, clothing, firewood and other items
    • Operate a cash register and handle revenue; balance shift
    • May document visitor complaints and assist with special events or programs
    • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Must possess a current and valid driver's license or have reliable transportation
  • Must be able to work outdoors and on weekends, holidays, and varied shifts
  • Must be able to climb in and out of vessels and under trailers
  • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills (written and oral)
  • Ability to work with little supervision
  • May be required to work at the ANS station for an 8 hour shift and take lunch at the station
  • Uniform items may be provided; some uniform items may be purchased at employee expense
  • Successful completion and passing of background screening may be required
  • Maintenance of a safe driving record and valid driver license prior to operating State-owned vehicles (fleet policy)
  • Note:

    MVRs may be reviewed for workers who are assigned or required to operate a State fleet vehicle
Physical and Work Environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position may require significant physical activity including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. Color perception and ability to hear verbal/radio communications are also important.
