About the role
Quantum is looking for a Senior QA Engineer to own quality across our Unified Surveillance Platform (USP), a hyperconverged, VMware-based storage platform purpose-built for enterprise video surveillance. You'll be the technical backbone of our test strategy, working hands‑on in a physical hardware lab to validate high-availability infrastructure that our customers depend on to keep critical surveillance systems running without interruption.
This is a senior, hands‑on role for someone who’s spent real time inside VMware environments, not just deploying to them, but administering, breaking, and hardening them, and who’s comfortable owning a physical test lab from the rack up.
What you’ll do- Design, execute, and own test strategy for USP releases, including test plans, test cases, execution reporting, and release-readiness sign-off from end to end.
- Build and run deep validation of VMware vSphere/ESXi environments, including HA, DRS, and live‑migration failure and recovery scenarios.
- Own and maintain a physical test lab (primarily Linux-based, with Windows Server systems where needed), covering hardware, virtualization stack, and everything in between.
- Validate storage‑networking fundamentals underneath the platform: VLANs, iSCSI, RAID/erasure coding, and block vs. file storage behavior.
- Partner with engineering to reproduce, triage, and drive resolution of complex infrastructure defects.
- Bring surveillance‑domain awareness to testing; familiarity with VMS platforms (Milestone, Genetec, Avigilon, or similar) is a strong plus.
- 5+ years of senior, hands‑on infrastructure or solutions QA experience, not application/web QA, but real infrastructure testing.
- Deep, current VMware expertise: vSphere, ESXi, HA, DRS, vMotion/live migration, administered and tested, not just deployed onto.
- Physical lab ownership experience, primarily Linux, with Windows Server exposure a plus.
- Solid grounding in storage‑networking concepts: iSCSI, RAID, VLANs, block vs. file storage (experience with Net App, Dell, Hammerspace, or Cumulo‑comparable environments a plus).
- A track record of owning test strategy, not just executing test cases: release‑readiness judgment, not just defect logging.
- Based in or willing to work a hybrid schedule (3 days/week onsite) at our Centennial, CO hardware lab.
USP powers surveillance storage for organizations who can’t afford downtime. This is infrastructure QA with real stakes, on hardware you can walk over and touch. If you’d rather be hands‑on in a lab than buried in tickets for a web app, this is that role.
