Physical Requirements , and Shift Differentials

Work hours for these three positions will be Monday through Friday from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Tuesday through Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Work may be required outside the regular shift to meet department needs. Successful candidates must be able to follow verbal communications and read and comprehend written directions.

They must also interpret written directives, policies, and memos. The essential functions require exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. The job requires constant or frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, and depth perception. Candidates must perform these physical demands and wear personal protective equipment and standardized uniforms.

  • Regular rate applies when work hours fall between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (no shift differential).
  • Second shift differential rate (7.5%) applies when half or more of the scheduled work hours fall between 4:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
  • Third shift differential rate (14%) applies when half or more of the scheduled work hours fall between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
  • Weekend differential rate (20%) applies when more than half of the scheduled shift hours fall on a weekend shift. Weekend shifts start at 4:00 p.m. Friday through 6:00 a.m. Monday.
Patrolling and Call Responses

Conduct security patrols of campus and all College buildings and facilities on foot or by other means (i.e., patrol car, bicycle, etc.) and provide stationary security post duties as assigned. Respond to all calls for service directed by radio, telephone, and/or supervisory and managerial personnel of the Security Department. Design and lead campus safety patrol initiatives. Notify security supervisory and management personnel promptly of security breaches and potential risks such as trespassers, contacting law enforcement as appropriate.

Assume control of situations on campus until emergency responders arrive.

Investigations and Reporting

Provide initial response to emergencies and incidents on campus and complete initial investigations to determine disposition. Conduct investigations of security matters on campus. Write complete, accurate, and timely reports to record campus incidents, document investigations, and maintain logs relating to activity on campus. This requires strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer and typing proficiency. Utilize computer-aided reporting systems to originate and file written reports regarding activities and incidents occurring on College properties and information received from other sources.

Properly report and track incidents for the supervisor to include in federally mandated Clery reports. Work with law enforcement to preserve evidence in incidents that may be criminal in nature.
