Responsibilities Patrolling and Call Responses

Conduct security patrols of campus buildings and parking lots on foot or by patrol vehicle or bicycle. Provide stationary security post duties. Respond to all calls for service directed by radio, telephone, or supervisory personnel. Design and lead campus safety patrol initiatives. Notify supervisory personnel of breaches of security and contact local law enforcement as appropriate. Assume control of situations on campus until emergency responders arrive.

Investigations

and Reporting

Provide initial response to emergencies and incidents and complete initial investigations. Conduct investigations of security matters. Write complete, accurate and timely reports, maintaining logs relating to campus activity. Report and track incidents for federally mandated Clery reports. Work with law enforcement to preserve evidence for incidents that may be criminal.

Enforcement

Control the flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Enforce all College rules and regulations on property. Challenge trespassers, loiterers, errant vehicle operators and others who create safety risks. Temporarily detain individuals when necessary as last resort. Assist in resolving conflicts, crowd control, issuing parking tickets and escorting persons to leave campus or call law enforcement.

Emergency Responses

Assist in evacuating faculty, staff and students during emergencies. Provide emergency response and first aid when needed. Serve as initial responder for tornadoes, floods, bomb threats, lockdowns, etc., following proper procedures. Issue timely warnings and notifications. Maintain required certifications in emergency response areas.

Equipment Maintenance and Use

Exercise proper care and maintenance of all College owned or leased equipment, including vehicles. Maintain proficiency with authorized protection tools (batons, handcuffs, pepper spray, radio, etc.) and campus security systems. Complete and maintain certification and required recertification in all applicable areas.

Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of work experience in security, campus safety or law enforcement as the primary function of the job. (Part‑time experience will be pro‑rated.)
  • College, university, or non‑correspondence business school coursework in Law Enforcement or a similar field may substitute for experience on a year‑for‑year basis. A copy of the transcript verifying required credits must be submitted by the Final date to receive applications.
  • Minimum of 21 years of age. Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license to operate campus vehicles.
  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within six months of hire if not already certified.
  • Must pass a post‑offer, pre‑employment background check, physical, agility, and drug test.
  • Must be able to train in and use special equipment such as taser, pepper spray, handcuffs, and ASIST within six months.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. occasionally, 50 lbs. frequently, or 20 lbs. constantly as required for moving objects.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, customer service, attention to detail, ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and experience working with diverse groups of people.
