Job Overview

The Colorado Community College System (CCCS) is the statewide pathway to individual achievement and economic vitality. This full‑time position is located in the Security Department at Colorado Community College System – Lowry Campus. The position will work with a broad range of people campus wide to ensure situations are appropriately addressed and expectations for safety are achieved.

Shift Differentials

Shift differentials are paid as per state annual pay plan:

  • Regular rate for work hours 6:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. (no shift differential)
  • Second shift differential 7.5% for hours 4:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.
  • Third shift differential 14% for hours 11:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m.
  • Weekend differential 20% for hours on weekend shift (4:00 p.m. Friday–6:00 a.m. Monday)
Responsibilities
  • Conduct security patrols of campus and all College buildings and facilities on foot, by patrol car, bicycle, etc.; provide stationary security post duties as assigned.
  • Respond to all calls for service directed by radio, telephone, and/or supervisory personnel, ensuring timely notification of security breaches.
  • Perform safety escorts, check areas for unauthorized personnel, prevent vandalism and theft, and conduct physical inspections of buildings.
  • Respond to alarms, assist fire and police departments, and provide customer service by supplying information and services.
  • Provide initial response to emergencies and incidents; complete initial investigations and document findings in accurate reports.
  • Maintain logs, file reports in computer‑aided reporting systems, and ensure proper reporting to Clery reports.
  • Control vehicle and pedestrian traffic, enforce College rules and regulations, and detain individuals when necessary using baton techniques or restraining devices.
  • Assist in conflict resolution, crowd control, issue parking tickets, and issue trespass notifications.
  • Assist in evacuations during emergencies, provide first aid/CPR/AED, serve as initial responder for tornadoes, floods, bomb threats, lockdowns, etc.
  • Maintain proper care of College‑owned or leased equipment, including authorized protection tools; maintain proficiency with campus safety and security systems.
  • Report crimes that pose an ongoing threat to the community immediately to the Police Department.
Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of work experience in security, campus safety, or law enforcement as the primary function of the job; experience prorated if part time.
  • Alternatively:
    College, university, or business school coursework in Law Enforcement or a related field may substitute for experience on a year‑for‑year basis; transcript needed.
Conditions of Employment
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license to operate campus vehicles.
  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 60 days of hire if not already certified.
  • Must submit to a post‑offer, pre‑employment background check, physical, agility, and drug test; must be 21 years or older.
  • Must receive training in special equipment (baton, pepper spray, handcuffs, ASIST) within six months of appointment; if not certified within six months, position will be downgraded to Technician I.
  • Must be able to exert up to 100 lbs of force occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, or 20 lbs constantly; must be able to perform required physical tasks.
  • Felony convictions, crimes of moral turpitude, or convictions related to job duties may disqualify; background check outcomes must be provided to HR.
Residency Requirement
