Do you have a passion for the outdoors and a dedication to public service? Eagle County is seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our trails team. In this hands-on role, you will perform essential maintenance and repairs to keep the Eagle Valley Trail system safe, beautiful, and accessible for our community. Your work will directly contribute to the enjoyment and usability of one of our region's greatest assets.
We have the flexibility to hire a Trail Maintenance Technician OR a Senior Trail Maintenance Technician, depending on qualifications.
Hiring Hourly Ranges:
Schedule:
Summer Season Mon - Thur. 6:00 am - 4:30 pm. Winter Season Mon
- Fri 7:00 am - 3:30 pm. Will be required to to plow snow on weekends and holidays if needed and cover any other after-hours callouts if needed.
Core Responsibilities (Applies to Both Roles)
As a key member of our trails team, you will perform general maintenance on the regional trail system. While the Senior Technician will perform these tasks with greater autonomy, the core duties for both roles include:
- Trail & Grounds Maintenance:
Perform monthly sweeping and mowing of the trails, with additional upkeep after rain or construction. Manage seasonal vegetation, including trimming, weeding, and coordinating the removal of hazard trees. - Inspections & Repairs:
Conduct monthly and quarterly inspections of all trail sections. Repair, replace, and install signs, trail furniture, and railings. Perform surface maintenance like crack sealing, patching, and shoulder backfills. - Operations & Upkeep:
Empty trash containers and dog waste receptacles. Touch-up striping and paint markings. - Seasonal & Emergency Response:
Manage snow and ice removal, requiring a flexible schedule with early morning and weekend work during the snow season. Respond to public complaints and emergency calls for issues like rockslides or fallen trees. - Project & Team Coordination:
Assist with special projects, including bridge repairs, fencing, and drainage work. Collaborate with town staff, temporary employees, and volunteer groups. - Safety & Reporting:
Maintain clear records for all projects and issues. Consistently observe all safety procedures, use equipment properly, and report any potentially unsafe conditions.
Additional Responsibilities for the Senior Technician
In addition to the core duties, the Senior Trail Maintenance Technician will:
- Plan & Innovate:
Communicate observations and suggestions to improve maintenance methods, standards, and schedules. Identify preventive maintenance initiatives and recommend innovations for cost savings and efficiency. - Report & Track:
Assist with long-range planning by reporting on field conditions, estimating material needs, and tracking maintenance costs. - Train & Mentor:
Share knowledge, skills, and best practices with teammates when appropriate.
Qualifications by Level

Trail Maintenance Technician:
- Experience:
A minimum of one (1) year of experience in maintenance, construction, mechanics, property management, or a related field. - Age:
Must be 18 years or older. - Licenses &
Certifications:- A valid Driver's License and a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
- Flagging Certification (or the ability to obtain and renew every 2 years).
- Pesticide Applicator License (or the ability to obtain).
Senior Trail Maintenance Technician:
- Experience:
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in maintenance, construction, mechanics, property management, or a related field. - Licenses &
Certifications:- A valid Driver's License and a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
- Flagging Certification (or the ability to obtain and renew every 2 years).
- Pesticide Applicator License (or the ability to obtain).
Shared Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Successful candidates for either role will possess the following skills:
