Job Overview

The Judicial Department works to provide equal access to justice, contribute to public safety, and strengthen the rule of law across Colorado. The Probation Officer at this level performs entry‑level duties including investigation, assessment, supervision, resource coordination, and monitoring of clients’ court‑ordered services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform case management duties, document client activities, review documents and court orders, and manage client e‑file.
  • Conduct face‑to‑face appointments and interviews, and ongoing assessments to determine treatment needs and risk to the community. Develop appropriate case plans to guide supervision and ensure compliance with court conditions.
  • Assess, prioritize, and respond to critical incidents and potential risks in the field and office. De‑escalate hostile or agitated clients and potentially violent situations.
  • Complete a variety of reports to assess criminal behavior. Provide relevant information and sentencing options to the court.
  • Submit comprehensive compliance reports to the court, including revocation documents, while protecting confidential information. Update the court as needed and provide professional testimony.
  • Inform staff, stakeholders, and the public about the Victim Rights Amendment. Respond to community feedback regarding clients and probationers and collect victim statements for court proceedings.
  • Collaborate with other judicial districts and states on victim‑related concerns.
  • Attend meetings and complete training as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, human services or related field or equivalent, or Associate’s degree with two years of relevant experience or High School Diploma with four years of relevant experience
.

Experience:

Prior work experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, social work, psychology, or a similar field.

Physical Effort: Exert up to 35 lbs occasionally, 20 lbs frequently, and may need to move objects.

Work Environment: Occasional exposure to unpleasant conditions, hazards, risk, and outside work. Office environment.

Exposures: Hostile or irate individuals, individuals with violent backgrounds, communicable diseases, bodily fluids.
