• Visit high schools in Douglas, Dodge, and Washington Counties to provide career exploration and work‑readiness skills training to students with disabilities.
• Offer education on resumes, application processes, and interviewing skills.
• Model and advise on soft skills such as timeliness and dependability, helping students develop self‑advocacy and decision‑making skills.
• Develop engaging, educational, and interactive group activities.
• Assist students in strengthening self‑advocacy related to their disabilities.
• Arrange job exploration activities (informational interviews, job shadows, work‑based learning experiences).
• Build and maintain relationships with students, parents, teachers, school staff, and employers to ensure quality services and provide information about Nebraska VR services.
• Attend Individual Educational Plan (IEP) meetings to understand student needs and update school staff on VR involvement.
• Document all interactions with students, parents, and VR staff accurately and consistently.
• Maintain reliable attendance, hold a valid driver’s license, and travel independently as required.

• Prepare and approve cases for client eligibility, priority groups, job goals, and employment plans by analyzing medical, psychological, social, educational, and employment information.
• Develop, manage, and approve Individualized Plans for Employment (IPEs) and determine employment outcomes.

Approximately 40% of the time is spent in an office setting; 60% is spent traveling or working at alternative sites. Employees may use personal vehicles for travel and are expected to be available for occasional overnight travel.

• Service Specialist (Bachelor’s degree) – Minimum one year of related work experience.
• Rehabilitation Specialist (Master’s degree) – Recognized emphasis in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling and Guidance, or a related field that provides competence in employment services for people with disabilities.
• Experience working with students with disabilities and a strong understanding of secondary school systems.
• Ability to manage a high volume of cases and collaborate effectively with teachers and school staff.
• Preferred for Rehabilitation Specialist – Progressive experience mentoring others in case management and delivering high‑quality services.
