Job Overview & ResponsibilitiesAs a Propulsion Systems Engineer / Software Engineer in the ULA Software Department, you are responsible for developing and testing integrated solutions related to the automated launch site command control & communication software. You will apply fluids, thermodynamic, mechanical systems design, and systems engineering principles to develop and test requirements that ensure the health and safety of the launch crew and vehicle during critical operations, including launch.
A core responsibility is to ensure that changes driven from other groups are properly integrated into both Ground Fluids Software Requirements and Parameters. You will develop, update, and maintain software requirements and parameters for and within the ground fluids software, and verify and validate them by performing option level and integrated testing. Team members will support testing of launch pad and vehicle system interfaces with Ground Fluids Software.
Be ready to support engineering, production, or launch activity that requires use of ground fluids software or technical input/review of related data.
You will work with a highly collaborative team in an Agile environment. You will engage with Product Owners, Technology Architects, Airborne and Ground Hardware Design Engineers, Launch Site Operators, and Software Developers on cross‑functional activities to design, develop, and test cutting‑edge software and launch vehicle solutions.
- Develop new software products, implementing modern software design principles, resolving complex technical problems, and providing innovative solutions.
- Refine requirements, design subsystems, develop code units, and perform integration, test and validation of software.
- Work within an agile environment embracing rapid iteration and continuous improvement.
- Engage with Product Owners, Technology Architects, QA and Automation teams to design, develop, and test cutting‑edge software solutions.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Required Years of ExperienceMinimum of 2 years of related work experience.
Basic Qualifications- Hands‑on industry experience with 2+ years in design, operation, or control of hardware systems, pneumatic systems or cryogenic fluid systems that transfer commodities.
- Ability to assess and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, and industry/government standards.
- Experience developing requirements and procedures for automated operations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Ability to test and troubleshoot software.
- Knowledge of launch vehicle design and/or operation.
- Hardware test experience.
- Experience with lean‑agile development and shared design philosophy.
- Understanding and/or exposure to Linux.
- Experience reading and navigating code for troubleshooting requirements and test observations.
- Experience in Java and Python scripting.

Most salaried ULA team members work a “9/80” schedule, with every other Friday off. Benefits and work schedules may vary for union‑represented hourly positions and are described in the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
