Night Shift CNC Plasma, Laser, and Drill Head Cutting Table Operator
Job Summary
The CNC Plasma, Laser, and Drill Cutting Table Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC-controlled cutting equipment to accurately cut, drill, and process metal materials according to engineering drawings and production specifications. The operator ensures quality, efficiency, and safety throughout the manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation
- Set up and operate CNC plasma cutting tables, laser cutting machines, and CNC drilling systems
- Load programs, verify correct parameters, and make minor program adjustments as required
- Select and install appropriate tooling, consumables, and materials
- Monitor machine operations to ensure accurate cuts, hole placement, and dimensional tolerances
Production & Quality Control
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and work orders
- Inspect finished parts using measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, micrometers, gauges)
- Ensure parts meet quality standards, tolerances, and customer specifications
- Identify and report defects or machine malfunctions
Maintenance & Safety
- Perform routine machine maintenance, cleaning, and consumable replacement
- Troubleshoot basic mechanical, electrical, or software issues
- Follow all safety procedures, including PPE and lockout/tagout practices
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
Documentation & Communication
- Accurately record production data, material usage, and job completion details
- Communicate with supervisors, programmers, and quality personnel regarding job status or issues
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical or trade school preferred)
- 1–3 years of experience operating CNC plasma, laser, or drilling equipment (or equivalent training)
- Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T basics
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with CNC controls
- Strong attention to detail and mechanical aptitude
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CAD/CAM software
- Knowledge of metal fabrication processes and materials (steel, aluminum, stainless steel)
- Forklift or overhead crane experience
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- Ability to work in an industrial environment with noise, heat, and metal dust
- Manufacturing or fabrication shop
- Exposure to machinery, sharp materials, sparks, and fumes
