Chemical Warehouse Technician

Pay Range: $20.00-$24.00 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated competency

Position Summary

The Chemical Warehouse Technician is responsible for safely receiving, storing, handling, picking, packaging, staging, and loading chemical products and other warehouse materials.

This position works with a variety of industrial chemicals, including products that may be corrosive, flammable, oxidizing, toxic, or otherwise hazardous. Employees must consistently follow company safety procedures, chemical-handling requirements, SDS information, PPE requirements, and applicable shipping and storage procedures.

The position requires good judgment, attention to detail, reliable attendance, and the ability to perform warehouse duties with limited supervision after training.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Receive inbound chemical products, containers, pallets, and other materials.
  • Load and unload trucks using forklifts, pallet jacks, drum-handling equipment, and other appropriate equipment.
  • Pick and stage customer orders accurately according to product, quantity, lot number, package size, and shipping instructions.
  • Verify containers are properly closed, labeled, marked, and in acceptable condition before movement or shipment.
  • Safely handle drums, totes, pails, cases, bags, and other chemical containers.
  • Operate forklifts and other powered industrial equipment in accordance with company procedures.
  • Store chemicals in designated locations while maintaining required chemical segregation and storage practices.
  • Read and understand product labels, Safety Data Sheets, hazard information, and required PPE.
  • Wear chemical-resistant clothing, gloves, eye/face protection, footwear, respiratory protection, or other PPE when required for the task.
  • Assist with transferring, repackaging, or dispensing chemicals after receiving appropriate training and authorization.
  • Operate pumps, hoses, valves, drum equipment, scales, and other chemical-handling equipment when required.
  • Inspect containers for leaks, damage, corrosion, swelling, contamination, or other unsafe conditions.
  • Immediately report spills, leaks, damaged containers, unsafe conditions, or product discrepancies.
  • Participate in spill-response activities within the employee's assigned level of training.
  • Maintain clean aisles, work areas, equipment, containment areas, and chemical-storage locations.
  • Perform inventory counts and assist in correcting inventory discrepancies.
  • Accurately complete warehouse paperwork.
  • Assist with preparation and staging of hazardous and non-hazardous shipments.
  • Follow DOT, OSHA, company safety, hazardous-material, and environmental procedures applicable to assigned duties.
  • Perform routine inspections of forklifts and warehouse equipment before use.
  • Assist with general warehouse, facility, and yard duties as necessary.
  • Perform other warehouse and chemical-handling duties reasonably related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous warehouse, industrial, manufacturing, chemical, or material-handling experience preferred.
  • Forklift experience preferred; company training/certification may be provided.
  • Ability to read product labels, safety instructions, work orders, and basic shipping documents.
  • Ability to perform basic math involving quantities, weights, and measurements.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Ability to recognize when a condition is unsafe and stop work or request assistance.li>
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work independently after completing required training.
Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to:

  • Regularly stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, and perform physical warehouse work throughout the shift.
  • Frequently lift and carry containers or materials weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Move heavier drums, pallets, and containers using appropriate mechanical equipment.
  • Climb onto or work around trucks, docks, pallets, and warehouse equipment as required.
