Librarian/Media Specialist
Position Overview: The Central Falls School District seeks to hire a talented, knowledgeable, and highly innovative certified educator to fill the Library Media Specialist position at Ella Risk Elementary School for the school year. All CFSD educators are expected to carry out the District’s core values of EQUITY, EMPOWERMENT, and EXCELLENCE as they work towards building relationships with students/colleagues, delivering personalized, high-quality instruction, cultivating strong partnerships with our families and community, and meeting all position expectations and District policies.
Certified staff are expected to abide by the Rhode Island Professional Teaching Standards and the CFSD/CFTU collective bargaining agreement policies and procedures. Guided by the District’s Strategic Plan, we strive to prepare all students for success!
- Administers setup and maintenance of automated catalog and circulation systems, selects and purchases new materials to ensure a balanced library collection, conducts an annual survey to evaluate the library media program and gather faculty and student input.
- Prepares and administers the library budget, instructs students and staff in using the library system, and provides access to information through online resources.
- Network with other professionals through participation in local, state, and national organizations.
- Work with school staff to develop a schedule for effective library use by class groups, posts an electronic calendar.
- Identify obsolete and worn materials and maintain an up-to-date catalog of the library collections.
- Cultivate collaborative learning and leadership, distributing knowledge and expertise to empower and support others.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and content areas to design and implement instruction that increases blended learning opportunities for all students.
- Facilitate/model strategies for implementing blended learning classrooms identified by administration.
- Provide group and individual instruction in information literacy, research strategies, and electronic resources and equipment.
- Provide reference and readers’ advisory services to all students, including those with reading difficulties or special needs.
- Update instructional and library-related professional skills through conferences and continuing education.
- Prepare bibliographies and incorporate national and state library standards.
- Collaborate with instructional staff to deliver lessons that integrate information literacy and resources.
- Assist staff with accessing informational resources in various formats and integrating literacy skills across the curriculum.
- Assist students and staff with Google Classroom and related programs.
- Inform students and staff of new materials and online resources; promote ethical information use and research standards.
- Incorporate students’ linguistic and cultural backgrounds into lesson planning and connect prior language development to new learning.
- Set and pursue meaningful goals based on educational best practices and focus on improving student outcomes.
- Demonstrate belief in student potential, reflect on feedback, assess abilities, and work to close gaps; empower students to become motivated, responsible, and resilient learners.
- Maintain a positive, engaging learning environment that supports academic, social, and personal well-being of all students.
