Job Description

Position Overview:

The Central Falls School District seeks to hire a talented, knowledgeable, and highly innovative certified educator to fill the 5th Grade (English Side) position at the Raices Dual Language Academy for the  school year. All CFSD educators are expected to carry out the District’s core values of EQUITY, EMPOWERMENT, and EXCELLENCE while building relationships with students, colleagues, families, and the community, and meeting all position expectations and District policies.

Certified staff will abide by the Rhode Island Professional Teaching Standards and the CFSD/CFTU collective bargaining agreement policies and procedures. Guided by the District’s Strategic Plan, we strive to prepare all students for success.

Responsibilities and Expectations
  • Implement and deliver all facets of the Central Falls Grade 5 English As a Second Language curriculum in alignment with WIDA and Common Core Standards.
  • Create language and content objectives by implementing curriculum, teaching and learning standards, and practices that align with Common Core Standards and are embedded with WIDA Essentials.
  • Incorporate students’ backgrounds and experiences to improve performance and enhance instruction using a variety of techniques to ensure content concepts are comprehensible and advance students’ literacy.
  • Develop and implement classroom and curricular accommodations and modifications for all students, including language development adaptations for MLLs.
  • Identify new approaches and strategies to learning and teaching that stimulate critical thinking and problem‑solving techniques.
  • Provide instructional support to scaffold language and content domains to deliver rich, authentic instruction for all students.
  • Use various assessment information to plan instruction and set all academic goals, plans, activities, and actions based on each student’s best interest.
  • Cultivate a stewardship of collaborative learning and leadership inside and outside the classroom, distributing knowledge and expertise in a skillful way that empowers and supports others.
  • Practice a growth mindset, demonstrate a strong class culture, and use feedback to reflect and set goals.
  • Fulfill high academic standards and share expertise with support personnel, colleagues, and staff to ensure all student academic and social/emotional needs are met; collaborate with special education and MLL colleagues to provide IEP accommodations and align curriculum with Common Core and WIDA standards.
  • Understand, analyze, and evaluate information and make connections among multiple factors, data points, ideas, learning styles, personalities, and potential solutions to make the best decision possible.
  • Incorporate a student’s background in lesson plans and understand how to make connections with prior native language development linguistically.
  • Set and pursue meaningful goals based on educational best practices focused on improving student and stakeholder outcomes.
  • Demonstrate a belief that the individual is capable of learning and growth; assess own knowledge, skills, and talent deficits and actively work to close gaps.
  • Empower students to become self‑motivated, responsible, and resilient learners.
  • Maintain a positive and engaging learning environment that promotes the academic, social, and personal well‑being of all students.
  • Ensure practices enable students, staff, and parents to interact effectively in a culturally diverse environment where all backgrounds, identities, customs, and traits are respected and built into the learning process.
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior, expectations, and genuine concern for others under all circumstances; model what is expected of others.
  • Complete all tasks, reports, and other necessary requirements associated with teaching a class in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with families regularly to discuss student performance, attendance, progress, etc., via phone calls, emails, and written correspondence.
