Job Description Responsibilities- Provide 1:1 and small group coaching grounded in literacy pedagogy, research‑based instructional practices, and the district‑adopted ELA curricula
- Lead data analysis and action planning with teachers using available literacy data
- Model (live or video) ELA lessons in classrooms
- Work with teachers to gain a deeper understanding of literacy curriculum and strategies for implementation
- Build the capacity of educators to improve literacy learning and teaching to drastically improve student outcomes
- Create coaching schedules and manage a coaching caseload of ELA teachers across grades 9–12
- Develop and utilize coaching agendas and plans to document teacher focus areas, action steps, and progress toward goals
- Maintain a weekly coaching log to document frequency and type of coaching that has occurred
- Collaborate with school leaders and the Chief Academic Officer to provide coherent, differentiated, and targeted support for the school
- Participate in the CFSD Coaches Professional Learning Community and other professional learning opportunities, including receiving 1:1 coaching from the Chief Academic Officer
- Participate in CFSD and external coaching training and collaboration, including RIDE’s coaching training opportunities
- Teach one class during the school day to allow for a model classroom in which teachers can observe and develop a deep understanding of curriculum implementation
- Devote 4 non‑teaching periods a day to:
- modeling practice (live and through the use of video)
- observing and providing feedback
- supporting teachers within unit design, performance assessments, and lesson planning as needed
- providing resources and strategies to teachers to meet school-wide and curricular goals
- supporting teachers in the implementation of the core ELA curriculum and any supplementary or literacy intervention curricula
- supporting all content teachers in developing students’ literacy skills
- Take a lead role in CPT and Professional Learning time by:
- facilitating professional development and learning opportunities with departmental colleagues
- sharing and modeling best practice strategies for departmental colleagues

- Demonstrated prior excellence in teaching students with disabilities and/or students who are MLLs
- Demonstrated commitment to working with and supporting colleagues in ELA and related disciplines
- Demonstrated teacher leadership (formal or informal)
- Demonstrated ability to provide and accept constructive feedback
- Demonstrated implementation of culturally responsive practices yielding improved student learning
- Strong pedagogical knowledge and ELA content expertise

- Deep knowledge of the Study Sync curriculum preferred
- Proficient in the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy through a RIDE‑approved program
- Secondary certification in ELA
- Valid RI Certification in ESoL or completion of certification within 3 years
- Valid RI certification in Special Education strongly preferred
