This role would sit within our growing Environment and Sustainability Team. You will provide ecological advice and support across offices and teams, including strategic ecological advice for sites and masterplans, surveys, policy contribution, strategy documents and managing sub-consultants.
Key Responsibilities- Identify and manage ecological risks and opportunities throughout project delivery by providing advice and delivering surveys.
- Advise on BNG – undertake surveys, assessments and provide advice at design stage and to clients on how best to meet legal requirements.
- Monitor ecological performance using field data and site observations to assess performance with environmental commitments during construction.
- Support biodiversity outcomes, ensuring design aligns with ecological best practices and legal obligations, contributing to Nature Based Design Solutions.
- Driven and self-motivated: actively seeks growth, keeps skills current, and maintains awareness of evolving legislation and best practice.
- Strategic outlook: supports business development, nurtures client connections, and contributes to long-term ecological and environmental planning.
- Organised project manager: experienced in managing budgets, schedules, and outputs across a variety of projects.
- Effective communicator: skilled at presenting technical ecological information in a clear, accessible way for clients, stakeholders, and non-specialists.
- Strong stakeholder engagement: comfortable working with landowners, planners, regulators, and local communities employing emotional intelligence.
- Analytical thinker: capable of evaluating ecological data, identifying trends, and making sound, evidence-based decisions.
- Innovative problem-solver: brings practical and creative solutions to ecological issues such as habitat creation, restoration, and species management.
- 3–4 years+ in ecological advisory roles.
- Understanding of surveys required for different habitats and locations.
- Ability to undertake a Phase 1 Habitat Survey.
- Understanding of BNG (experience would be beneficial).
- Driving licence.
- Environmental degree or equivalent.
- Species specialisms (e.g. bats, badgers, ornithology).
- Experience working in multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Salary £30 k‑£40 k for Ecologist, £40 k+ for Senior Ecologist (negotiable).
- 26 days holiday plus bank holidays.
