Nexus Careers Group is recruiting an experienced Electrical Shift Technician to join the engineering team at a highly sensitive government facility in Westminster.

Due to the nature of the site and the work undertaken, the client’s identity and precise location will remain confidential during the initial recruitment process.

The successful candidate will work as part of a continental shift team, maintaining critical electrical and building-services infrastructure within a secure, operational environment.

This role is subject to successful Security Check and Developed Vetting clearance, commonly referred to as SC and DV vetting.

The Role

You will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across the facility, responding to plant faults and helping to maintain the safe and reliable operation of critical services.

The position will involve electrical maintenance, fault-finding, plant inspections, contractor supervision and emergency-response activity.

You will work closely with the Shift Leader and wider facilities team, ensuring all work is completed in accordance with strict site procedures, security requirements and safe systems of work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete planned and reactive electrical maintenance across the facility.
  • Diagnose faults and restore electrical and building-services equipment safely.
  • Monitor critical plant, alarms and building-management systems.
  • Carry out regular plant-room inspections and operational checks.
  • Maintain electrical distribution equipment, switch gear and associated systems.
  • Support testing, isolations and electrical switching activities where authorised.
  • Complete maintenance records, logbooks and detailed shift handovers.
  • Supervise specialist contractors working within secure areas.
  • Follow strict permit-to-work, health and safety and security procedures.
  • Respond to emergency incidents andescalatesignificant defects appropriately.
Candidate Requirements
  • Recognised electrical engineering qualification.
  • Experience working as an Electrical Technician, Shift Technician or Maintenance Engineer.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial electrical systems and building-services maintenance.
  • Experience completing planned maintenance, reactive repairs and technical fault-finding.
  • Familiarity with electrical distribution, generators, UPS systems and control systems.
  • Previous experience within a critical, secure or high-profile environment would be advantageous.
  • Able to work continental shifts covering days, nights, weekends and public holidays.
  • Willing and able to complete the required SC and DV security-vetting processes.

Existing security clearance would be advantageous but is not essential, provided the applicant meets the relevant vetting requirements.

Security Vetting

Because this position is based at a highly sensitive government facility, any offer of employment will be conditional upon the successful completion and maintenance of the required security clearances.

Applicants should understand that the vetting process may involve detailed checks relating to identity, employment history, residency, finances, personal circumstances and background.

Further information regarding the process will be provided to suitable candidates during the recruitment stages.

Shift Pattern

The position operates on a continental shift rota covering both days and nights.

The rota includes weekends and public holidays where they fall within the scheduled pattern, while also providing regular blocks of rest days between shifts.

Package

The successful candidate will receive a salary in the mid-£50,000s per annum, alongside ongoing technical training and the opportunity to work within a prestigious and highly secure government environment.

Additional company benefits will be discussed during the recruitment process.

Application

This opportunity would suit an experienced Electrical Shift Technician or Electrical Maintenance Engineer who is comfortable operating within a highly regulated and security-conscious environment.
