Position: Mechanical Engineer covering LDN/HC + £46k + Van
Location: City Of London

Mechanical Engineer | £40k–£46k + Van

London & Home Counties | Commercial Building Services

£40,000–£46,000 DOE + fully expensed van + fuel card + phone + iPad

If you're an experienced Mechanical Engineer looking for a solid package, varied commercial work, and a company that takes a sensible approach to your working day, this could be worth a look.

I'm recruiting for an established building services business looking to add an experienced Mechanical Engineer to its mobile engineering team, covering London and the Home Counties.

This is a genuinely varied role covering planned maintenance, reactive breakdowns, fault finding, remedial works and mechanical installations across a commercial portfolio.

Why this role stands out

£40,000–£46,000 basic salary, depending on experience
25 days' holiday + bank holidays
Fully expensed company van
Fuel card
Company phone
Company iPad
Nest pension
1-in-8 call-out rota
£150 per week standby payment, paid in full via expenses
Call-out attendance paid at 1.5x normal rate
4-hour minimum for call-out attendance, door-to-door
A sensible approach to working hours

The standard hours are 8am–5pm, but this isn't a role where you're expected to remain on site until 5pm simply because that's what's written on the contract.

Depending on your work area and workload, engineers will generally finish on site around 3pm–4pm and then travel home.

The business takes a practical approach to travel and understands that good engineers shouldn't be kept on site unnecessarily.

What you'll be doing

You'll be responsible for maintaining, fault finding and repairing a range of commercial mechanical and building services systems.

Your workload will include:

Planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
Reactive maintenance and emergency breakdowns
Mechanical fault finding and diagnosis
HIU servicing, breakdowns and fault finding
Commercial heating and hot water systems
Boilers and associated controls
Pumps and pressurisation units
Expansion vessels
Calorifiers
Plate heat exchangers
Water softeners
LTHW and CHW systems
AHUs and FCUs
Supply and extract ventilation
Motors, valves and actuators
Mechanical plant and associated pipework
New mechanical installations
Commissioning and testing
Remedial works identified during PPM visits
You'll also complete job sheets and service reports, provide photographs and technical recommendations where required, and liaise professionally with clients, estate managers, site teams and specialist subcontractors.

What we're looking for

You'll need strong experience in commercial mechanical engineering / building services and be comfortable working independently across different sites.

Ideally, you'll have experience with:

Commercial heating and hot water systems
Boilers, pumps and pressurisation systems
Primary and secondary heating circuits
LTHW / CHW systems
Mechanical plant rooms
AHUs, FCUs and ventilation
Pumps, motors, valves and actuators
PPM and reactive maintenance
Mechanical fault finding
Remedial works and installations
A good understanding of SFG
20, manufacturer requirements, British Standards, RAMS, permit-to-work procedures and health & safety legislation is expected.

Experience with plant replacement, refurbishment, pricing remedial works or coordinating subcontractors would be advantageous.

The person

We're looking for someone who can be trusted to get on with the job.

You'll be:

Technically strong and confident with fault finding
Practical and solution-focused
Comfortable making decisions on site
Professional when dealing with clients
Reliable and well organised
Able to work independently
Proud of the quality of your work
A strong communicator and team player
