Madrone Trail Public Waldorf School
Madrone Trail Public Charter School is a K–8 public Waldorf school dedicated to educating the whole child through developmentally appropriate, arts-integrated, and nature-connected learning. We are seeking a Lower Grades Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year who has a deep love of children, a strong commitment to Waldorf pedagogy, and a sense of purpose in bringing Waldorf education into the public school setting.

- Experience and/or formal training in Waldorf education and teaching methods
- Experience teaching elementary grades
- Strong classroom management rooted in relationship-building and fostering intrinsic motivation
- Openness to looping with a class through the grades, when appropriate
- A strong and grounded presence, modeling kindness, beauty, and respect
- Commitment to collaboration and active participation in the school community
- Ability to integrate Waldorf pedagogy with Oregon state standards
- Plan and implement all class curriculum, lessons, homework, and assessments
- Develop and teach main lesson blocks in alignment with Waldorf scope and sequence
- Create a yearly curriculum outline and daily/weekly schedule
- Integrate state curriculum standards within Waldorf methodology
- Administer state testing and district-mandated assessments as required
- Continually assess student progress and determine when interventions are needed
- Participate in the MTSS/SLT process for students requiring additional academic or social-emotional support
- Maintain Waldorf classroom traditions, including:
- Morning verse and seasonal verses
- Handshaking or personal greeting of each child
- Integrated movement, music, and song
- Visual arts including drawing, painting, and chalkboard work
- Seasonal storytelling and festival preparation
- Prepare students for Friday Assembly performances (2–3 annually)
- Direct one class play per year
- Plan field trips that enrich curriculum and deepen connection to nature
- Participate in summer grades preparation coursework
- Communicate regularly with families through weekly or bi-weekly class updates
- Host 2–4 parent evenings per year
- Conduct fall and spring conferences
- Make phone calls regarding significant classroom concerns
- Meet with parents in person as needed
- Complete written reports (Fall/Winter/Spring for lower grades)
- Serve as faculty liaison to one parent committee
- Work with an assigned teacher mentor for ongoing observation and support
- Attend all faculty meetings, in-service days, and professional development
- Participate in school festivals and events including Lantern Walk (participating grades), Spiral of Light (set-up/clean-up), May Faire, Auction, and 8th Grade Graduation
- Collaborate actively with colleagues and administration
- Contribute to a positive, professional, and mission-aligned school culture
- Bachelor’s Degree (required)
- Current Oregon TSPC License (required)
- Restricted Teaching License with appropriate endorsement may be considered for candidates with substantial Waldorf training
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and planning abilities
- Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners
- Collaborative and team-oriented mindset
- Patience, empathy, and a calm classroom presence
- Understanding of Waldorf pedagogy (preferred but not required)
