The Central Point School District is located in the Rogue River Valley of Southern Oregon. The district is being restructured to enhance educational programs and seeks innovative, energetic staff dedicated to student success and creative decision‑making.

Position Details

Building: Special Education Department
Start Date: August 2026
Calendar: 184 days (August - June)

Compensation and Benefits
  • $26.25 – $31.55 per hour, depending on approved experience
  • Longevity pay after 6 years of employment
  • Annual COLA pay increase (OSAE negotiated)
  • Annual step pay increase (eligible employees)
  • 8 paid holidays annually
  • 10 paid sick leave days per year
  • 2 paid personal leave days per year
  • 5 paid bereavement leave days per year, per occurrence

Purpose

The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant contributes to specialized educational services for students with special needs in the area of speech and language communication.

Reports to

Speech Language Pathologist and Principal

Nature of Work

The assistant works independently following standardized routines under close supervision, adhering to policies, procedures, and regulations. Frequent interaction with students requires professional decorum and role‑model behavior.

No direct supervision exercised.

Interface

Primarily interfaces with students, colleagues, administrators, and families.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (waivable)
  • Pass criminal background check
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and follow multi‑step written and verbal instructions in English
  • Associate’s degree or other certification from an accredited speech‑language pathology assistant program
  • Oregon state speech‑language pathology assistant certification
  • Oregon state driver’s license
Essential Job Functions
  • Assist Speech Language Pathologist with assessment and treatment of students with speech and language challenges
  • Provide direct treatment to students per an established instructional plan under supervision
  • Assist in planning appropriate interventions and collecting data to assess effectiveness
  • Document student progress toward instructional plan objectives
  • Work with individuals or small groups to reinforce instruction
  • Conduct speech and language screenings, per protocols, without interpretation
  • Adapt instructional materials for classroom use as needed
  • Perform clerical tasks: maintain student records, prepare instructional and classroom materials, maintain speech and language equipment
  • Maintain effective and respectful relationships with staff and students

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

The position is primarily indoors and requires speaking with proper English enunciation, pronunciation, and grammar, hearing, and writing. The incumbent may need to kneel, bend, or crouch occasionally; potential exposures to blood‑borne pathogens and agitated students are possible. The role requires high interaction with diverse children, many experiencing behavioral, academic, or physiological challenges. Travel and evening or weekend events may be required.

The job requires extended computer use, prolonged sitting or standing, and occasional lifting of materials under 10 lbs. Mobility and manual dexterity are needed to operate office equipment. Reasonable accommodations are available.
