Job Summary
The Central Point High School to Highway trainee is a one‑year training program designed for recent or soon to be high school graduates and alternative school graduates. The program will run from July1,2026, to June
30,2027. Salary starts at $3,952 per month, increases to $4,124 after six months, and can lead to a Transportation Maintenance Specialist2 position ($4,312–$5,988).
- Perform manual labor to repair roadway surfaces and shoulders.
- Complete weather‑related operations, including snow removal, deicing, and sanding.
- Set up traffic control after crashes or emergencies.
- Maintain drainage systems, clean ditches, and repair culverts.
- Clear brush, mow grass, and spray roadside vegetation.
- Repair guardrails, milepost markers, and fences.
- Service and repair tools and motorized equipment.
- Work in specialties such as bridge, sign, landscape maintenance, and stripe and traffic line operations.
- Accept exposure to noise, extreme heights, heavy equipment, pesticides, and hazardous waste.
- Move around rough terrain, on uneven slopes, work in all weather conditions, and lift up to 100pounds.
- May need to be available after hours, on weekends and holidays for emergency and weather‑related purposes.

- Training to obtain a Class
A commercial driver license (CDL).
- High‑school diploma or GED earned between January1,2023, and July1,2026 (exclusive).
- Must not have previously completed the ODOT High School to Highway program.
- Must have or be able to obtain a Class
A commercial driver license (or learner permit within 60days of hire). - Must be able to obtain a tanker endorsement and have no air‑brake, 5th‐wheel, or manual‑transmission restrictions within six months of hire.
- Must be at least 18years old on or before September1,2026.
- Must possess at least one year of driving experience and a valid, unexpired Oregon driver license or commercial driver license.
- Maximum 30‑minute response time for emergency call‑outs at the specified address.
- Must be willing to use a commercial motor vehicle to conduct business.
