Centralia College is on a 30-acre campus of modern buildings set among walking paths, lawns, and native plantings just a few blocks from the heart of Centralia, Washington. Job Description
Provide instruction to students in the education pathway seeking a degree in K-8 education. Class assignments are primarily in upper division coursework in the BAS-Teacher Education program. Courses in the program are offered in a cohort based, hybrid instructional modality, with classes in the evening, starting ss offerings include classroom management, assessment and evaluation, curriculum and instruction, social emotional teaching & learning;
subject based courses: teaching math, science, reading, social studies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Create instructional materials and deliver instruction in content and skills areas aligned with K-8 needs and best practices. Continually improve student learning through assessment. Adapt instruction practices to improve student learning. Participate in program advisory board meetings, serve on campus committees, advise students and be available to students outside of instructional time, and attend meetings as needed.
Qualifications
Master's degree in Education AND four years of teaching experience in an elementary/middle school setting.
Preferred Qualifications
* Washington State teaching certification
* Connections with local school districts to assist in facilitating practicum and student teaching placements.
* Knowledge of and application of state standards in teacher education
* Knowledge of PESB approval/program review process
* Experience teaching or training adult learners
* Experience mentoring, observing, and providing feedback to para educators and/or elementary teachers to ensure appropriate learning and learning environments for K-8 students.
* Experience developing engaging, hands-on curriculum in a hybrid format
* Experience as a mentor teacher or mentoring first-year teachers in an elementary school
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: K-8 state standards, establishing and maintaining an inclusive learning environment, developing information for the purposes of teaching others.
Skills in: communicating complex tasks to students with no prior experience or knowledge, assessing work completed for strength and providing feedback on errors. Demonstrating and modeling teaching strategies that are effective in K-8 classrooms.
Abilities to:
Critical think to solve problems, assess a lesson to determine what is and is not working and adjust accordingly. Foster a Psychologically Safe Environment:
Ability to contribute to a supportive and inclusive workplace that values respect, collaboration, and psychological safety.

The physical demands of the Assistant Professor position require employees to regularly talk, hear, stand and walk. This position spends time in office and classroom settings. Employees must be able to sit occasionally, stand and/or walk for over 20% of the workday.
