Position: Program Coordinator (Corrections)

Job Description

The incumbent in this position will, under general direction, be responsible for sharing educational information with incarcerated individuals and facilitating communication with Department of Corrections (DOC) and college staff at the Washington corrections centers in Washington. The Program Coordinator shall undertake other activities under the direction of the Director of Corrections involving all facets of education orientation administration of the assigned corrections education site.

This position is designed to fulfill in part a contract awarded by the Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) to operate a correctional education program in accordance with an interagency agreement with the Department of Corrections (DOC). Centralia College and its employees working in corrections education are expected to follow all DOC policies, IT and other security requirements, follow DOC Operational Memorandums, and comply with the Superintendent's directives.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary contact via phone, email, or TEAMS for education orientation for the state of Washington Men's Prison Division.
  • Verify high school credentials for all incoming incarcerated individuals, update in OMNI
  • Request and track transcripts for potential HS+ students
  • Request college transcripts for Corrections Education Institutions
  • Coordinate student recruitment and on-site registrations/enrollment services with director
  • Coordinating schedules and student callouts for educational orientation to cover information about Basic Skills and College programs statewide
  • Schedule student appointments
  • Data entry, extraction and compilation for documentation and reporting
  • Maintain compliance with Centralia College, SBCTC, and DOC policies and procedures
  • Share program information with members of facility, DOC personnel, and other interested persons
  • Establish office workflow for education orientation with input from staff and faculty to ensure compliance with the Interagency Agreement.
  • Attend meetings and/or conferences as an education representative of the assigned corrections education site
  • Facilitate interaction between corrections education sites and the DOC, SBCTC, and Centralia College
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the director
Qualifications
  • High school graduation or equivalent AND Two years of experience in the program specialty OR Equivalent education/experience.
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree
  • Bilingual, especially in Spanish and English.

  • Ability to: work accurately and independently; read, understand, and interpret policies and procedures; develop written reports; and work effectively with others.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to build rapport with internal and external staff members.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated application of methods and data collection; communication and correspondence practices.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to frequent changes in the work environment.
  • Knowledge of the colleges and programs in Washington
  • Competency in recognizing systemic and structural inequities.
  • Knowledge of appropriate measures that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Skill in the effective and accurate use of OMNI in day-to-day operations.
  • Ability to use the primary features of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and other office applications effectively.
Conditions of Employment

This position is fully in-person. Remote work is not available for this role.

This is a 40 hours per week position within Washington Corrections Center. Classified employees are represented by the Washington State Federation of State Employees (WFSE). The state of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for state employees.

DEADLINE: The position will close on June 14, 2026. The screening committee will begin their review June 15, 2026.

COMPENSATION Monthly Salary:
Range 41 ($3,665 - $4,771)
