This position provides a wide‑range of speech, hearing, and augmentative communication services in individual or small groups in a variety of elementary and secondary school settings. It also consults with parents and teachers of children with identified communication disabilities.
Required Qualifications- Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate Certificate with speech language pathologist/audiologist endorsement
- Valid CCC‑SLP
- Knowledge of both verbal and non‑verbal communication methods
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff, parents, administration, and support personnel
- Willingness to learn and use curriculum, assessments, education codes, and district policies
- Competency in assessment, data gathering and interpreting techniques
- Ability to use and/or willingness to learn technology and computerized reporting systems
- Successful experience establishing and carrying out behavior intervention systems
- Current knowledge of federal and state laws, rules and regulations governing education of children qualified for special education
- Working knowledge of Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) best practices
- Knowledge of the identification process of special education students
- Strong communication skills, empathy, growth mindset, and customer‑service orientation
- Alignment with the District’s vision, mission, and goals, including belief that all students can succeed
- Positive attitude and professionalism under stress, with confidentiality and tact
- Ability to provide services in a team setting
- Familiarity with racial equity and inclusion frameworks
- Evidence of high, sincere interest in pupils, employees, patrons, and academic programs of the schools
- Successful experience working with self‑direction and a high degree of collaboration
- Organizational skills and flexibility to respond to changing student needs
- Ability to exercise careful judgment, confidentiality and tact in the performance of duties
- Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations
- Prior experience providing speech and language therapy in a school setting
- Ability to speak Spanish
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
- Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments
- Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate
- Provides individualized therapy programs to meet students’ needs and correct identified speech or language disabilities
- Assists and guides school staff in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments
- Practices effective leadership in areas of assignment
- Conducts testing, interprets results, and leads the multi‑disciplinary team in the identification of special education students
- Assesses, motivates, redirects, and interacts with students in a productive manner
- Provides training/in‑service on strategies for working with students with behavior problems
- Prepares and submits necessary documentation for Medical Recovery
- Participates in or facilitates school‑based Multi‑disciplinary Team/Group of Qualified Professionals meetings
- Promotes collaboration between school administration, staff and parents for effective, consistent communication between stakeholders
- Keeps abreast of special education pedagogy and applies research to programs
- Articulates special education visions and goals to regular education and special education staff
- Assists in developing and implementing Childfind activities
- Directly assists classroom teachers with ongoing management of special needs students in classrooms
- Completes work in a timely manner consistent with state and federal regulations
- Serves as a member of the Student Support management team, IEP Teams, etc. as pertinent to the job
