Centralia College is on a 30-acre campus of modern buildings set among walking paths, lawns, and native plantings just a few blocks from the heart of Centralia, Washington. Job Description

Under the general direction of the Dean of Library, Learning Resources, and CC East, the Tutorial Center Program Coordinator oversees the day-to-day operations of the Tutoring Center and directs the work-study students. The primary purpose of this position is to recruit, train, and coordinate the activities of tutors, with a primary focus on STEM disciplines while also providing support for other subjects, with the exception of writing.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Support the Dean with oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Tutor Center employees and supplemental programming;
  • Recruit and train work-study student tutors;
  • Schedule tutors and ensure sufficient hours and staffing for Tutoring Center.
  • Assist the Dean as a liaison to faculty to ensure sufficient tutoring coverage in requested subject areas;
  • Address student complaints and provide appropriate referrals to internal and/or external resources that serve student needs;
  • Maintain Tutoring Services communications materials (signage, brochures, posters, flyers, web pages, forms and other materials) and represent the Tutor Center;
  • Assist the Dean with required tutor trainings and presentations;
  • Act as a liaison with college departments to provide information on the Tutor Center Program and to discuss student problems;
  • Counsel students concerning academic problems and student/tutor relationships;
  • Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree AND one year of secondary or college-level teaching or advising with knowledge of minorities and disadvantaged or deprived persons. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted, year-for-year, for required education.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using computers, spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software.
  • Ability to interpret and comply with rules, polices, and procedures.
  • Excellent customer service skills using both verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work on and pivot between multiple tasks and handle difficult situations in a calm and professional manner.
Conditions of Employment

Hourly employees who qualify (work 350 hours in 12 consecutive months) are represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE).
